JACK KLUGMAN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Jack Klugman was born on April 27th, 1922 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Jacob Joachim Klugman. He had two siblings Deborah and Maurice. Before he became involved in acting, Klugman served in the United States Army and then moved to New York to pursue a career as an actor.
He is most well remembered for his role as actor, Tony Randall's roommate, Oscar Madison in the television series called, "The Odd Couple" (1970-1975) for which he won two Emmy's for and also for his role in the series, "Quincy, M.E." (1976-1983).
In 1948, he studied at Carnegie Institute of Technology. He then began to pursue a career as an actor. Beginning in 1954 Klugman appeared on a number of television shows such as, "Justice" (1954) starring Gary Merrill and Dane Clark, "Appointment With Adventure" (1955) and "Naked City" (1959-1963), "Twilight Zone" (1960-1963) and "The Virginian" (1964) among many others.
His film credits consisted of such features as, "12 Angry Men" (1957) starring Henry Fonda, Ed Begley, Lee J. Cobb, Jack Warden, Martin Balsam, Robert Webber, Edward Binns and E.G. Marshall, "Days of Wine and Roses" (1962) starring Jack Lemmon, Lee Remick, Alan Hewitt, Jack Albertson and Charles Bickford and "Goodbye, Columbus" (1969) starring Richard Benjamin and Ali MacGraw.
Along with acting he has enjoyed being involved in thoroughbred horse racing. One specific horse he had part ownership in, Jaklin Klugman was actually voted the 1980 California Horse of the Year after he won several races.
Klugman has married twice during his lifetime, first to Brett Somers from 1953 through 2007 when she passed away and after having two children together, Adam and David. However they were only living together for twenty one years of their marriage but just never legally proceeded with a divorce. He also has a step daughter Leslie Klein. His second marriage is to Peggy Crosby in 2008 and they are still happily married today.
Throughout his life, he was always a very heavy smoker and was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1974. Then in 1989 he lost one of his vocal chords to throat cancer, however he continued to work as an actor but was lives with a raspy voice. Also, in 1999, he publicly discussed his reasoning for wanting and proceeding with his penis enlargement surgery with TV Guide.
Jack Klugman was roasted on The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast on NBC March 17, 1978.
He has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and currently resides in Los Angeles with his latest work on, "Camera Obscura" (2010).
