JACK HALEY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Jack Haley was born on August 10th, 1898 in Boston, Massachusetts with the birth name John Joseph Haley Jr. He began his entertainment career performing in vaudeville and soon was appearing on Broadway in such productions of "Good News" and "Gay Paree".
He became a famous actor most remembered for his role as the Tim Man in the film "The Wizard of Oz" (1939). Prior to this role he was cast in a number of silent films such as "Broadway Madness" (1927) and "Follow Thru" (1930).
Before his big leap to fame he starred in such films as "Poor Little Rich Girl" (1936) and after getting cast as the Tin Man he worked on the film "Higher and Higher" (1943) alongside Shirley Temple.
Along with his theatrical stage experience and film experience, he was a host of the television show "Ford Star Revue" (1950). He then went on to retire from the industry and found employment in real estate. He did come out of retirement to appear in a cameo in "Norwood" (1970) and his last public appearance was at the 1979 Academy Awards where he co presented an award with his co star Ray Bolger.
Haley married only once to Florence Mcfadden in 1921 and they had two children, Gloria and Hack Haley. The couple remained married until he passed away on June 6th, 1979 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from a heart attack. He is interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California. He was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Radio.
