Horst Buchholz ACTOR

Horst Buchholz was born on December 4th, 1933 in Berlin, Germany with the birth name Horst Werner Buchholz.  During World War II, his parents placed him in foster care with a family in Czechoslovakia, and when the war came to an end, he returned back to his family in Berlin.  He soon dropped out of school when he realized he had a love for performing and wanted to pursue a career in entertainment.
He made the move to West Berlin and began finding work as a stage actor and radio performer.  After gaining some experience as an actor he broke into the film industry taking on some small roles before he got his first big break in the film, "Marianne of My Youth" (1955) followed by a Best Actor Award at the Cannes festival for his role in the film, "Sky Without Stars" (1955).  He was soon given the lead in his next big film, "Confessions of Felix Krull" and finally he had begun to reach star status.
He had his Broadway debut in 1959 in a production of, "Cherrie" and soon more prominent film roles followed such as, "Two Worlds" (1958), "Wet Asphalt" (1958), "Tiger Bay" (1959) and "The Magnificent Seven" (1960), first distributed in Europe but later it came to the United States and became a huge hit and he starred along other notable actors, Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Charles Bronson, Eli Wallach and Brad Dexter.
The next couple roles he added to his resume were even more successful starring in the films, "Fanny" (1961), "One, Two, Three" (1961), "The Empty Canvas" (1963), "That Man in Instanbul" (1965), "Johnny Banco" (1967) and "The Savior" (1971).
As his career progressed he began to turn his efforts towards television movies and series.  He was seen in such television movies as, "Dead of Night" (1977), "Return to Fantasy Island" (1978), "Derrick" (1976-1983) and "Fantasy Island" (1978) among a number of other German television shows.
Over the course of his career other big screen feature roles he added to his credits include, "Code Name: Emerald" (1985), "And the Violins Stopped Playing" (1988), "Faraway, So Close!" (1993) and "Life is Beautiful" (1997)

He married only once to Myrium Bru in 1958 and they had two children and remained married until he passed away at the age of sixty eight from pneumonia on March 3rd, 2003.  His remains are buried in the Heerstraße Cemetery in Berlin.
