HECTOR ELIZONDO BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Hector Elizondo was born on December 22nd, 1936 in New York City, New York. During high school at the High School of Performing Arts, Hector excelled in basketball and baseball. Along with being a great athlete, Elizondo was also a talented dancer and musician. After earning his high school diploma, he enrolled at City College New York with the intention of pursuing a career as a history teacher, however he became a father at an early age and dropped out of school to support his wife and child working a number of jobs such as a guitarist, vocalist, conga player, ballet dancer and he even managed a bodybuilding gym.
After suffering a knee injury, he could no longer pursue a career as a dancer or run a bodybuilding gym, so he decided to switch to drama. He began with working as a stage actor and after gaining some experience in a number of off-Broadway productions, he was working on Broadway in such plays as, "Sly Fox", "Steambath", "The Prisoner of Second Avenue", "The Great White Hope", "Dance of Death" and "The Rose Tattoo".
By the mid 70's he had also broken into the television industry working on such series as, "Kojak", "Casablanca", "Columbo", "American Playhouse", "Foley Square", "All in the Family", "The Rockford Files", "Popi" and "Chicago Hope" for which he won an Emmy, an ALMA award and was nominated for a Satellite Award.
In addition to his many stage and television credits, he was also seen on the big screen in such features as, "Valdez Is Coming" (1971), "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" (1974), "Cuba" (1979), "American Gigolo" (1980),"Young Doctors in Love" (1982), "The Flamingo Kid" (1984), "Nothing in Common" (1986), "Overboard" and three of his most well known films, "Pretty Woman" (1990) starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere, "The Princess Diaries" (2001) and "The Princess Diaries 2" (2004).
More recently, he has been seen on such films as, "Cane" (2007), "Thundercats" (2011) and soon to release in 2012, "Deauville". Recent television credits include, "Monk" (2008-2009), "Grey's Anatomy" (2007-2011) and "Last Man Standing" (2011-2012).
He has one son from his first marriage and has been married a total of three times. His current wife is Carolee Campbell whom he wed in 1969.
