HAYDEN RORKE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Hayden Rorke was born on October 23rd, 1910 in Brooklyn, New York with the birth name William Henry Rorke. His mother was Margaret Rorke who was a screen actress. He received his early education at Brooklyn Prep School and then went on to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and then began working as a stage actor at the Hampden Theatrical Company.
After gaining a number of years experience there he then began appearing on Broadway productions. Rorke then broke into the film industry with his debut in the musical film, "This Is the Army" (1943) George Murphy, Joan Leslie, Alan Hale Sr., Rosemary DeCamp, Ronald Reagan, George Tobias, Kate Smith, Victor Moore, followed by a role in, "Lust for Gold" (1949) starring Glenn Ford, Ida Lupino, Edgar Buchanan, Gig Young, William Prince, Arthur Hunnicutt, Jay Silverheels, Antonio Moreno, Will Geer and Paul Ford.
Other more well known film roles he added to his credits included, "An American in Paris" (1951) Starring Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron, Oscar Levant, Georges Guetary, Noel Neill and Nina Foch, "Pillow Talk" (1959) starring alongside Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Tony Randall, Thelma Ritter, Allen Jenkins and Nick Adams, "When Worlds Collide" (1951) starring Richard Derr, John Hoyt, Barbara Rush, Peter Hansen, Larry Keating and Frank Cady, "Starlift" (1951) starring Janice Rule, Dick Wesson, Ron Hagerthy and Ruth Roman and cameos by Doris Day, Gordon MacRae, James Cagney, Gene Nelson, Jane Wyman, Virginia Mayo and Phil Harris, "Wild Stallion" (1952) with Ben Johnson, Edgar Buchanan, Martha Hyer, Hugh Beaumont, Don Haggerty and I. In addition to film work, he made quite a name for himself as a television actor. Hayden Rorke is most well remembered for his role portraying, Dr. Alfred E. Bellows on the television series, "I Dream of Jeannie" (1965) starring with Barbara Eden ad Larry Hagman. He never married and was open about his homosexuality. He passed away from multiple myeloma on August 19th, 1987 in Toluca Lake, California at the age of seventy six. His remains are buried at Culver City's Holly Cross Cemetery.
