HARRY DEAN STANTON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Harry Dean Stanton was born on July 15th, 1926 in West Irvine, Kentucky. After high school he served during World War II working as a chef with the United States Navy and later began performing in stage productions as the University of Kansas.
Stanton then decided to make the move to Los Angeles and begin his pursuit of a full time career as an actor. He joined on at the Pasadena Playhouse and also found work touring the United States with an all male choir.
Soon he broke into the film industry with his debut on, "Tomahawk Trail" (1957) starring Chuck Connors, John Smith, Eddie Little Sky and Susan Cummings. Followed by some more minor roles on such films as, "Revolt at Fort Laramie" (1957) starring John Dehner, Gregg Palmer, Don Gordon and Frances Helm and the television series, "Suspicion", "The Court of Last Resort", "Panic!" and "Decision".
Now he was finally beginning to earn a name in Hollywood as one of the new and upcoming talented actors and more prominent film roles began to come his direction such as, "Cool Hand Luke" (1967) starring alongside Paul Newman, George Kennedy, Strother Martin, J.D. Cannon, Morgan Woodward, Ralph Waite, Anthony Zerbe, Joe Don Baker, Luke Askew, Dennis Hopper, Robert Donner, Jo Van Fleet and Wayne Rogers, "Kelly's Heroes" (1970) starring alongside Clint Eastwood, Telly Savalas, Don Rickles, Carroll O'Connor and Donald Sutherland, Gavin MacLeod and Stuart Margolin, "Dillinger" (1973) starring with Warren Oates, Ben Johnson, Cloris Leachman, Geoffrey Lewis, Michelle Phillips, Richard Dreyfuss and Steve Kanaly, "The Godfather: Part II" (1974) starring Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, Robert De Niro, Talia Shire, Morgana King, James Caan and John Cazale, "Alien" (1979) also starring Tom Skerritt, Sigourney Weaver, Veronica Cartwright, John Hurt, Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto, "Paris, Texas" (1984) co-starring Dean Stockwell, Nastassja Kinski and Hunter Carson and "Repo Man" (1984) with Emilio Estevez.
A highly demanded actor, Stanton continued to appear in such features as, "Pretty in Pink" (1986) also starring Molly Ringwald, Annie Potts, James Spader, Jon Cryer and Andrew McCarthy, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (1998) starring Johnny Depp, Benicio del Toro, Tobey Maguire, Ellen Barkin, Gary Busey, Mark Harmon, Cameron Diaz, Christopher Meloni and Christina Ricci, "The Green Mile" (1999) starring Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, Gary Sinise, Dabbs Greer and James Cromwell and "The Man Who Cried" (2000) co-starring Christina Ricci, Cate Blanchett, Johnny Depp and John Turturro.
In addition to his success as a film actor, Stanton has also an accomplished musician and has toured nationally with his band, "The Harry Dean Stanton Band". He plays the guitar as well as sings and they perform regularly throughout the Los Angeles, California area.
