HAROLD J. STONE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Harold J. Stone was born on March 3rd, 1913 in New York City, New York with the birth name Harold Jacob Hochstein. His family was well known in the Yiddish acting theater and as a young boy he began acting with his father.
Originally, Stone intended in pursuing a career in medicine and earned a BA degree from the University of Buffalo Medical School. However, upon completing his schooling, he had a change of heart and wanted to see if he could make it as an actor.
He began with working as a radio actor and also started performing in a number of stage productions. Soon, he was appearing on Broadway in such plays as, "The World We Make" (1939), "Morning Star" (1940) and "A Bell for Adano" (1944).
After gaining some more experience as a stage actor he began adding a variety of television credits to his resume such as, "The Hartmans", "Suspense", "Shadow of the Cloak", "Martin Kane" and "The Man Behind the Badge" starring Charles Bickford.
In addition to his career as a stage and television actor, he was also appearing on such feature films as, "The Harder They Fall" (1956) starring Humphrey Bogart, "The Wrong Man" (1956) starring Henry Fonda and Vera Miles, "Somebody Up There Likes Me" (1956) starring Paul Newman, "Spartacus" (1960) starring Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Laurence Olivier, Woody Strode and Jean Peters along with a host of other great actors in this epic, "Girl Happy" (1965) starring Elvis Presley and "The St. Valentine's Day Massacre" (1967) starring Jason Robards, George Segal, Ralph Meeker and Jack Nicholson.
Although, he was working quite a lot in the industry, none of his film roles were taking his career to the next level of stardom. So, he returned to taking on television roles and added credits in the series, "Naked City", "The Untouchables", "Bonanza", "Daniel Boone" "Mannix", "Mission: Impossible", "The Rockford Files", "Kojak" and as a regular on the series, "Bridget Loves Bernie".
Harold J. Stone married twice, first to a lady by the name of Joan in who had two children with and they were together until she passed away in 1960. He then married a lady by the name of Miriam in 1960 and they had one child and legally separated, however a divorce never finalized until he passed away on November 18th, 2005 in Woodland Hills, California from natural causes at the age of ninety two.
