Guy Madison was born on January 19th, 1922 in Pumpkin Center, California with the birth name Robert Ozell Moseley. After leaving home he first supported himself by working as a telephone lineman and then during World War II, he joined the United States Coast Guard. When he was still in the military and on a break in Los Angeles, California he attended the Lux Radio Theatre Broadcast and was scouted by Henry Wilson who was an executive that worked for David O. Selznick. Madison was asked if he would appear in the film, "Since You Went Away" (1944).
This was the first step of his career in entertainment, he was signed to a contract and after the film released and he had returned to duty, viewers were showing their admiration for him as an actor by sending fan letters to the studio, so after he completed his military service, Madison returned to Los Angeles and began his career as an actor.
In 1946, he was signed to RKO Pictures and began appearing in a number of comedies and romantic dramas. Throughout his career he appeared in eighty five films, television and radio shows. He became most remembered for his role as James Butler Hickock ('Wild Bill' Hickok) on the television series, "Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok" (1951), which aired for a total of seven years and also starred Andy Devine as his sidekick 'Jingles'.
He mostly appeared in westerns and after this series was cancelled the majority of his work was in Europe in Italian westerns and German adventure films.
During the 1970's he did return back to the United States and continued to work in the industry but mostly taking on small cameo roles such as in, "The Pacific Connection: (1974), "The Rebels" (1979) and his last appearance was in 1989 in, "Crossbow: The Movie".
Madison married twice throughout his lifetime, his first wife was Gail Russell from 1949 through 1954. He then married Sheila Connolly in 1954 and after having four children, Bridget, Dolly, Erin and Robert, the couple divorced in 1964. Guy Madison passed away at the age of seventy four, on February 6th, 1996 in Palm Springs, California after suffering from emphysema.
