GORDON SCOTT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
 
Gordon Scott was born one of nine children, on August 3rd, 1926 in Portland, Oregon with the birth name Gordon Merrill Werschkul.  His parents, Stanley and Alice Werschkul raised their family in Oregon. 
 
Scott developed an interest in body building and after high school, he enrolled at the University of Oregon and was majoring in Physical Education, however after only one term he was drafted into the Army in 1944 and first worked as a drill instructor and later as a military policeman.  Once he was discharged from the military he continued to work a variety of jobs such as a fireman and farm machinery salesman.
 
In 1953, when he was working as a lifeguard in Las Vegas, he was spotted by two talent scouts who were so impressed with his physical appearance they introduced him to Sol Lesser, who was searching for someone to play the new Tarzan.  Scott with no acting experience was asked if he would be willing to test for the part.  Not only was he cast as the New Tarzan, Scott was given a seven year contract and some of the earlier Tarzan appearances were in, "Tarzan's Greatest Adventure" (1959) and "Tarzan the Magnificent" (1960). 
 
When Scott ended portraying the character Tarzan, he relocated to Italy and became quite popular in Europe appearing in, "sword and sandal" epics.  One of his last appearances was in 1965 in, "The Tramplers" followed by, "Danger!! Death Ray" (1967) and "Top Secret" (1967).  Scott then retired from the industry and spent the rest of his life as a guest speaker at a number of film conventions.        
 
Some say he married three times, however it is only documented that he married only one time to Vera Miles in 1956 and after having one child his marriage came to an end in 1960.  He never married again and on April 30th, 2007 he passed away in Baltimore, Maryland after suffering from complications from heart surgery.
