By the age of ten she was already able to work as a dance instructor and as her career progressed she showed the world that not only was she a talented dancer, but also a very capable singer, pianist and actress.  Her career lasted seven decades and she became most well known to audiences for her role in, "Mary Poppins" (1964) as the mother character.

Her first stage performance was in 1935 in, "Buckie's Bears" as a ballerina and by 1938, she was appearing on such films as, "South Riding".  Other film roles soon followed such as, "Halfway House" (1944), "Miranda" (1948), "the Card" (1952), "Personal Affair" (1953), "Mad About Men" (1954), "The Court Jester" (1956), "All Mine to Give" (1957) and "The Sundowners" (1960) for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Along with performing on the stage and working in the film industry, Johns was also seen in a number of television appearances such as, "A Little Night Music", "The Lloyd Bridges Show" (1962-1963) and an episode of, "Murder, She Wrote" (1984).  Some of her more recent film roles were in, "Nukie" (1988), "While You Were Sleeping" (1995) and "Superstar" (1999).

Glynis Johns married a total of four times throughout her lifetime.  Her first husband was Anthony Forwood from 1942 through 1948 and they had one child together.  She then married David Ramsey Foster in 1952 but this marriage ended shortly afterwards.  Her third time to marry was in 1960 to Cecil Henderson but this marriage also only lasted two years.  She then married her fourth husband, Elliot Arnold in 1964 and once again this marriage did not last long either.
