GAVIN MACLEOD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Gavin MacLeod was born on February 28th, 1931 in Mount Kisco, New York with the birth name Allan See, to parents, Margaret and George See.  After graduating from high school he went on to earn a college degree in acting from Ithaca College.   He then decided to join the military serving in the Air Force.  He would direct, produce and perform in plays to amuse the other troops and realized his love for the industry.  Upon completing his service, he relocated to New York City and found work at Radio City Music Hall as an usher and elevator operator.

He began to develop an interest in acting and was given the chance to appear on Broadway in a production of, "A Hatful of Rain" (1956) which was the beginning of his career taking off and soon he moved west to pursue the film industry.

Some of his early film roles he added to his resume were on, "The True Story of Lynn Stuart" (1958), "I Want to Live!" (1958), "Operation Petticoat" (1958) and "High Time" (1960).

Gavin had now finally begun to make a name for himself in the industry and along with working in films he also made a number of television appearances throughout his career on such series as, "Peter Gunn", "The Big Valley", "Murder, She Wrote", "Hawaii Five-O", "McHale's Navy', "The Sand Pebbles", "The Love Boat" and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show", a role he is most remembered for.  He was awarded two Golden Globe nominations for his role on this show and was also awarded three Golden Globe nominations for his role on, "The Love Boat".

In addition to his acting career, he had struggled throughout his lifetime with alcohol and therefore along with his wife they published a book titled, "Back on Course: The Remarkable Story of Divorce That Ended in Remarriage".  He and his wife then went on to host a show for 14 years on the subject of marriage.

More recently, he has starred in the film, "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry" (2008) and the television series, "The Suite Life on Deck" (2009) and "Pound Puppies" (2011).  In addition to an acting career, he was also an honorary Mayor for the city of Pacific Palisades and at one time was a spokesperson for Princess cruise Lines.

He is currently married to Patti MacLeod who he married in 1974 and divorced in 1982, but then re-married in 1985 and they remain together today.  His was married once before in 1954 to Joan Devore and they had four children together before the marriage ended in divorce in 1972.
