Forest Whitaker ACTOR


Forest Whitaker was born on July 15th, 1961 in Longview, Texas with the middle name Steven.  In 1965 his family relocated to Los Angeles with his two younger brothers, Ken and Damon who eventually also pursued careers as actors.  He was very athletic during high school, excelling in football and was also a very talented singer.  He eventually earned an athletic scholarship and later transferred to USC to focus on music and trained as an operatic tenor.  He was then awarded a scholarship to Berkeley and turned his focus to acting. 
He has accomplished quite a bit during his career in the industry.  He won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and was also the fourth African American male actor to win an Academy Award for Best Actor for the film, "The Last King of Scotland" (2006).  In 2006 he also won the, "Hollywood Actor of the Year Award" and in 2007 was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.   

His first on screen role was in, "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (1982) followed by roles in such films as, "The Color of Money" (1986), "Good Morning, Vietnam" (1987) and "Bird" (1988), which earned him a Best Actor award at the Canes Film Festival as well as a Golden Globe nomination.
Forest had reached quite a level of popularity and continued to remain in high demand in the industry.  In the 1990's more roles followed such as, "Downtown" (1990), "The Crying Game" (1992), "Smoke" (1995), "Ghost Dog: The Way of Samurai" (1999), "Phone Booth" (2002) and "Panic Room" (2002).
Along with his successful career as an actor he is also a very well known producer and director working as a producer on such projects as, "First Daughter" (2004), "American Gun" (2005), "Ripple Effect" (2007), "Powder Blue" (2009) and the television documentaries, "Brick City" (2009-2011) and "Serving Life" (2011).  He has directed the television movies, "Strapped" (1993), "Black Jag" (1998) and the film, "Hope Floats" (1998), among others.
Along with his acting career he has also been involved in a variety of humanitarian projects with such organizations as, Penny Lane that assists abused teenagers as well as PETA and Farm Sanctuary that aids in the protection of animal rights.  He is also a spokesperson for Hope North Ugandan orphanage and Human Rights Watch.
Some of his more recent roles have been in the films, "Where the Wild Things Are" (2009), "Hurricane Season" (2009), "Powder Blue" (2009) and the television series, "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" (2010).  Soon to release are the following film roles all still in post-production, "Vipaka", "The Truth", "Pawn", "Last Stand" and "A Single Shot".   
Forest has married only one time to former model, Keisha Whitaker in 1996 and they have three children together, two of his own and one whom he adopted from a previous relationship Keisha.  He and his family continue to reside in Los Angeles, California and remains active in the entertainment industry.
