Ewan McGregor ACTOR


Ewan McGregor was born on March 31st, 1971 in Perth, Scotland with the middle name Gordon, born to parents, James Charles Stuart and Carol McGregor.  Ewan has one older brother named Colin and is also the nephew of actor, Denis Lawson and the late actress, Sheila Gish. 
Before completing school at Crieff and Morrison Academy he left to join the Perth Repertory Theatre and worked as a stage hand as well as some minor parts in a number of productions there.  He then enrolled at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama and studied for three years.  Before he earned a degree, he was cast in the television series, "Lipstick on Your Collar" (1993) portraying, Private Mick Hopper.
Soon he was working in the film industry with roles on such features as, "Being Human" (1993), "Shallow Grave" (1994), "The Pillow Book" (1996) and "Trainspotting" (1996).  Soon he began to really gain media attention and was cast in one of his most well known roles to date as, Obi'wan Kenobi in the first three Star Wars episodes.
Other significant roles he has added to his resume were on such films as, "Little Voice" (1998), "Moulin Rouge!" (2001) where he sang alongside Nicole Kidman, "Black Hawk Down" (2001), "Down with Love" (2003), "Young Adam" (2003), "The Island" (2005), "Cassandra's Dream" (2007), "I Love You Phillip Morris" (2009) and "Amelia" (2009).  
In addition to his film and television work he has also performed in a number of successful stage productions such as, "Little Malcolm and His Struggles Against the Eunichs" (1998-1999), "Guys and Dolls" (2005-2007) and "Othello" (2007-2008).
Some of his more recent roles have been in such films as, "Beginners" (2010), "Perfect Sense" (2011), "Salmon Fishing in the Yemen" (2011), "Haywire" (2011) and soon to release in 2012, "The Impossible" and "Jack the Giant Killer".
He is currently married to his one and only wife, Eve Mavrakis whom he wed in 1995 and they have three children and reside in North London.  One of his children was adopted from Mongolia, a four year old girl named, Jamyan. 
Along with his successful acting career he has also formed his own production company called, "Natural Nylon", however in 2002, he stopped working with the company.  Ewan is also active in a number of charities such as UNICEF and the Go Campaign.  He also does some work for the Children's Hospice Association in Scotland.
He has received a number of honors throughout his career such as being ranked #36 in Empire magazines, "Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" in 1997 and in 2001 he was ranked #8 in the Orange Film Survey of Greatest British Actors.  
Ewan is a motorcycle enthusiast and participated in a international marathon trip traveling from London to New York for a total distance of 22,345 miles with his friend Charley Boorman and their camera man, Claudio von Planta.  This trip was later the plot for a television series as well as a novel titled, "Long Way Round".
