EVE ARDEN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Eve Arden was born on April 30th, 1908 in Mill Valley, California with the birth name Eunice Quedens to parents, Lucille and Charles Peter Quedens. When she was just a little girl, her parents marriage ended in divorce. As a young girl she already had an interest in show business and by sixteen years old she was given her chance to appear in her first professional stage production. She left Tamalpais High School early and began her pursuit of a career as an actress.
Arden joined a traveling stock company and also was offered some minor film roles. Her film debut was in, "Song of Love" (1929) and she continued to work on stage and was cast in, "Ziegfeld Follies" (1934) followed by a role in the film, "Oh, Doctor" (1937) which gained her a small amount of attention from Hollywood.
As her career progressed, she began being offered more prominent film roles such as, "Stage Door" (1937), "At the Circus" (1939), "The Doughgirls" (1944) and "Mildred Pierce" (1945), for which she earned her first Academy Award nomination.
Eve was also given a chance to see what working as a radio actress was all about. She was heard on the old time radio show, "Our Miss Brooks" which soon was made into a television show which aired on CBS in 1952 and ran until 1956. The series was then made into a film, "Our Miss Brooks" (1956).
Arden continued to remain working in the industry taking on small guest appearances on a number of television shows such as, "I Love Lucy" (1955), "Bewitched' (1966), "The Red Skelton Hour" (1959-1967) and another well known role on, "The Mother-In-Law" (1967). Later on in her career she also had a cameo appearance in the film, "Grease" (1978) and on the television series, "The Love Boat" (1980).
Eve Arden married twice throughout her lifetime, first to Ned Bergen in 1939 and they remained together until 1947. She then married, Brooks West in 1952 and they had four children together, one biological and three that were adopted. They remained married until he passed away on February 7th, 1984.
A couple years later, Arden lost her life at the age of eighty two, on November 12th, 1990 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from cardiac arrest which was due to her having arteriosclerosis heart disease. She is interred at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
