ELISHA COOK JR. BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Elisha Cook Jr. was born on December 26th, 1903 in San Francisco, California with the birth name Elisha Vanslyck Cook Jr., born to Elisha Vanslyck Cook Sr. At the age of fourteen he first began his involvement as an actor performing in vaudeville and also gained some experience with various stock companies.
After some time, he was appearing on Broadway and gained quite a bit of experience performing in such productions as, "Lightnin", "Kingdom of God", "Henry Behave", "Many a Slip", "Ah, Wilderness!" and "Her Unborn Child".
In 1936 he began pursuing roles in the film industry. Some of his early film roles included, "Her Unborn Child" (1936), "They Won't Forget" (1937), "The Maltese Falcon" (1941) starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet, "Phantom Lady" (1944), "The Big Sleep" (1946), and "Shane" (1953) starring Alan Ladd, Van Heflin, Jean Arthur, Brandon de Wilde and Jack Palance and "The Indian Fighter" (1955) starring Kirk Douglas.
As his career progressed some more notable film roles he added to his resume included, "The Killing" (1956), "House on Haunted Hill" (1959) starring Vincent Price, "Rosemary's Baby" (1968) starring Mia Farrow, "Electra Glide in Blue" (1973) and "Carny" (1980).
In addition to his many film roles he also appeared on a variety of television series such as, "Burke's Law" starring Gene Barry, "Sheriff of Cochise" starring John Bromfield, "Bat Masterson" starring Gene Barry, "The Fugitive" starring David Janssen, "Wagon Train", "Batman", "Magnum, P.I." starring Tom Selleck, "The Dennis Day Show", "The Bionic Woman" starring Lindsey Wagner and "Baretta" starring Robert Blake and Tom Ewell.
Elisha Cook Jr. married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Mary Lou Cook from 1929 through 1942. He then wed Peggy McKenna in 1943 and they remained together until he passed away on May 18th, 1995 in Big Pine, California after suffering from a stroke. He never had any of his own children and after retiring from the industry he lived a peaceful life in up in the High Sierra. His remains were cremated and scattered throughout the ocean.
