EDDIE MURPHY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Eddie Murphy was born on April 3rd, 1961 in Brooklyn, Mew York wit the birth name Edward Regan Murphy, born to Lillian Murphy. At a young age his father passed away and his mother re-married Vernon Lynch. Murphy realized from a young age that he loved entertaining and being the center of attention. When he was fifteen he would perform at local bars, youth centers and his high school auditorium. He was very talented with impressions and locally, he was gaining a small fan base.
In the early 80's, he was given a chance to perform at the Comic Strip. The club owners, Robert Wachs and Richard Tienken were highly impressed with Murphy's talent that they offered to manage his career. He was given the chance to audition for, "Saturday Night Live" (1975) and he became part of the cast and was a regular cast member from 1980-1984.
After gaining some more experience in live performances, Murphy then turned to film with his debut in, "48 Hrs" (1982). His next couple of film roles were all highly successful such as his roles in, "Beverly Hills Cop" (1984), which is considered his break out role followed by, The Golden Child' (1986), "Beverly Hills Cop II" (1987), "Coming to America" (1988) and "Beverly Hills Cop III" (1994).
He had a couple unsuccessful films such as, "Another 48 Hrs" (1990) and "Boomerang" (1992), however he made a come back with his role in the film, "The Nutty Professor" (1996) and followed with ore successful family films such as, "Doctor Dolittle" (1998), "Mulan" (1998), "Bowfinger" (1999) and "Shrek" (2001).
Along with being a successful actor and comedian he also has a singing career to ad to his resume. Eddie has provided background vocals to a number of songs and has two hit singles, "Party All the Time" and "Put Your Mouth on Me". He also recorded an album titled, "Love's Alright" in the early 90's.
In 2007, he was asked to join the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences and some of his latest appearances have been on, "Meet Dave' (2008), "Imagine That" (2009) and "a Thousand Words" scheduled to release in 2012.
He currently lives in Long Island, New York and has been married only once to Nicole Mitchell Murphy whom he wed on March 18th, 1993 and he has five children total. The couple divorced in 2006 and he has nor re-married, although it is said he exchanged marriage vows with Tracey Edmonds, a film producer, apparently the union was never legalized.
For his work in the industry he has received Golden Globe nominations for his roles in, "48 hrs", "Beverly Hills Cop" series, "Trading Places" and "The Nutty Professor". He then won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in, "Dreamgirls".
He is also involved in a number of charitable cases such as donating money to the AIDS Foundation and for cancer research and well as donated $100,000 to the Screen Actors' Guild strike relief fund.
OscarĀ® nominee Eddie Murphy, the consumate performer, will be hosting the 84th Academy Awards Presentation at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on February 26, 2012.
