EDDIE DEW BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Eddie Dew was born on January 29th, 1909 in Sumner, Washington with the birth name Edward M. Dew. Over the course of his career he worked not only as an actor but also a television and film director.
His career in entertainment began in the 1930's with small roles on such films as, "The Story of Louis Pasteur" (1937) starring Paul Muni, Josephine Hutchinson, Anita Louise, Henry O'Neill, Halliwell Hobbes, Porter Hall, Dickie Moore, Walter Kinsford, Akim Tamiroff and Donald Woods, "Another Dawn" (1937) starring Kay Francis, Errol Flynn and Ian Hunter, "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1938) starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, Melville Cooper, Ian Hunter, Montague Love, Una O'Connor, Patric Knowles, Robert Warwick, Alan Hale Sr. and Eugene Pallette and Claude Rains, "Professor Beware" (1938) with Harold Lloyd, Phyllis Welch and Raymond Walburn and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1939) starring Charles Laughton as Quasimodo, Maureen O'Hara, Cedric Hardwicke, Edmond O'Brien, George Zucco, George Tobias and Thomas Mitchell.
After gaining some experience in the industry he began to add more substantial film roles to his resume such as, "The Fighting 69th" (1940) starring James Cagney, Pat O'Brien, George Brent, William Lundigan, Frank McHugh, William Hopper, Henry O'Neill, Dennis Morgan, Dick Foran, Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Jeffrey Lynn, John Litel, Alan Hale Sr. and George Reeves, "Military Academy" (1940) starring Tommy Kelly, Bobby Jordan and David Holt, Don Beddoe, Walter Tetley, Joan Leslie and Jackie Searl, "Dude Cowboy" (1941) starring Tim Holt, Eddie Kane, Marjorie Reynolds, Lloyd Ingraham, Byron Foulger, Louise Currie and Tom London, "Riding the Wind" (1942), "Red River Robin Hood" (1942) starring with Tim Holt, Tom London, Keene Duncan, Cliff Edwards and Earle Hodgins and "Fighting Frontier" (1943) with Harry Woods, Robert Mitchum, Lorraine Miller and Smiley Burnette.
Up until this point in his career, he mostly appeared in 'B' Westerns and the majority of his roles were un-credited. However, Dew remained working in the industry and did not let his lack of popularity as an actor discourage him.
He signed on with Universal and for a decade mostly appeared in supporting film roles such as, "Trigger Trail" (1944) co-starring Rod Cameron, John Forrest 'Fuzzy' Knight, Lane Chandler, George Eldredge, Vivian Austin and Robert 'Buzz' Henry, "Renegades of the Rio Grande" (1945) starring Rod Cameron, John Forrest 'Fuzzy' Knight, Jennifer Holt, Ray Whitley, The Bar-6 Cowboys, Glenn Strange and Edmund Cobb, "Government Agents vs. Phantom Legion" (1951) also starring Walter Reed, Mary Ellen Kay, Dick Curtis, Pierce Lyden, John Pickard and George Meeker and his final acting film role was in, "Pagan Island" (1961) with Nani Maka and Sharon Michael.
Along with film work, the later part of his acting career was more focused on television appearing on, "Buffalo Bill Jr.", "Annie Oakley" and "Hawaii Five-O".
Along with his career as an actor he became a credited director and is most remembered for his work as the director of the television series, "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon". Other series he directed over the course of his career included, "The Old Testament Scriptures", "This Is My Life", "The Living Bible" and the films, "Naked Gun" (1956), "Stump Run" (1959) with Edgar Buchanan, Slim Pickens and Kaye Elhardt and "Wings of Chance" (1961) starring James Brown, Frances Rafferty, Richard Tretter and Patrick Whyte.
Eddie Dew passed away at the age of sixty three on April 6th, 1972 in Burbank, California.
