Ed Wynn was born on November 9th, 1886 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with the birth name Isaiah Edwin Leopold.  Ed attended High School at Central High in Philadelphia before dropping out and first working as a utility boy before he joined the, Thurber-Nasher Repertoire Company.   He also found work as an entertainer performing in the Ziegfeld Follies and then found work as a comedian in vaudeville.
He married in 1914 to Hilda Keenan and they had one son, Keenan Wynn before they divorced in 1937.  It was due to his son that he actually took a different career and became known as one of the best actors of all times.
Some of his more well known work was on, "The Ed Wynn Show" (1949), "Playhouse 90" (1956), "Requiem for a Heavyweight" (1956) and in a film called, "Mary Poppins" (1964) starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.  He also appeared with his son in 1961 in, "The Absent Minded Professor" starring Fred Macmurray.
He was always known to have a variety of props on stage with him.  Some of the more well known props that viewers expected to see were an 11 foot pole, a windshield wiper, a typewriter, a cash drawer and a cuckoo-clock fiddle.
Along with being a clown, vaudeville and comedian performer he also wrote some of his own shows.  He earned the nickname, 'The Perfect Fool'.  Ed Wynn remained working in the industry his entire life up until the age of seventy nine when he passed away on June 19th, 1966 in Beverly Hills, California from cancer.
Wynn  married two other times after his first marriage ended.  His second wife was Frieda Mierse from 1937 through 1939.  He then married his third and final wife, Dorothy Elizabeth Nesbitt in 1946 and they divorced on March 2nd, 1955.

Wynn is interred along with his son, Keenan Wynn at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Glendale, California.  Ed Wynn was awarded 3 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture industry, Radio and Television.
