ED LAUTER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Ed Lauter was born on October 30th, 1940 in Long Island, New York with the birth name Edward Matthew Lauter II. He was raised in Long Beach, New York and upon earning his high school diploma he went on to earn a college degree in English literature in 1961.
In the 60's he studied drama at the Herbert Berghof School and then he took a break from pursuing a career in the industry to join the united States Army for two years. Upon completing his military service, Lauter then began to focus on acting.
He first started doing stand up comedy and made his Broadway debut as a stage actor in 1970 in a production of, "The Great White Hope". Then he began to break into the film industry. His film career has lasted four decades. His screen debut was in 1971 on the film, "Dirty Little Billy" and he became most well known for his role as Captain Wilhelm Knauer in, "The Longest Yard" (1974).
Other film roles he has added to his resume over the course of his career are roles in, "The Last American Hero" (1973), "Executive Action" (1973) starring Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan and Will Geer, "The Midnight Man" (1974) starring Burt Lancaster, "The Longest Yard" (1974) starring Burt Reynolds, "Breakheart Pass" (1975) starring Charles Bronson, Jill Ireland, Ben Johnson and Richard Crenna, "King Kong" (1976), "Magic" (1978), "Death Hunt" (1981) starring Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, Carl Weathers and Angie Dickinson, "Cuio" (1983), "Real Genius" (1985), "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" (1985), "Death Wish 3" (1985), "Youngblood" (1986) starring Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Cynthia Gibb and Keanu Reeves, "Raw Deal" (1986) starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Revenge of the Nerds II: Nerds in Paradise" (1987), "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) starring Tom Cruise, "The Rocketeer" (1991), "School Ties" (1992), "True Romance" (1993), "Under Wraps" (1997), "Not Another Teen Movie" (2001), "Purple Heart" (2005), "Camille" (2007), "A Modern Twain Story: The Prince and the Pauper" (2007) and most recently he has starred in the Academy Award winner for Best Picture silent film, "The Artist" (2011) and the feature films, "Blind Pass" (2012) and "Trouble with the Curve" (2012).
Along with his many film roles he has also made time to appear on a variety of television series such as, "The X-Files", "Kojak", "Booker", "Charmed", "Star Trek: The Next Generation", "ER" and most recently in 2012, "Shameless".
He has married twice, first to a lady by the name of Marnie in 1985 and they had two children before their marriage came to an end. He then wed his second and present wife, Mia in 2006 and has two more children with her.
