DYLAN MCDERMOTT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dylan McDermott was born on October 26th, 1961 in Waterbury, Connecticut with the birth name Mark Anthony McDermott, born to teenage parents, Diane and Richard 'Mac' McDermott.
His parents separated when he was just a young boy and he lived with his mother, sister and his mother's live-in boyfriend. At the age of five she was shot by her boyfriend and the children were taken in by their grandmother, Avis Marino.
He first developed an interest in the arts when his father married playwright and actress, Eve Ensler who was responsible for writing , "The Vagina Monologues", Ensler felt that Dylan had a talent for acting and encouraged him to study acting. After graduating from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, he enrolled at Fordham University in New York City and majored in drama.
When he was studying acting under Sanford Meisner and involved in a workshop at the Neighborhood Playhouse, he was discovered by Joanne Woodward, an actress and producer.
His career in acting began in 1987 when he received a small part in the film, "Hamburger Hill" starring Courtney Vance, Don Cheadle and Steven Weber, which followed with roles in such films as, "Steel Magnolias" (1989) alongside Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah, Julia Roberts, Tom Skerritt and Sam Shepard, "Twister" (1989) starring Suzy Amis, Crispin Glover, Tim Robbins and Harry Dean Stanton, "The Neon Empire" (1989) starring Ray Sharkey, Gary Busey, Linda Fiorentino, Martin Landau, Julie Carmen and Harry Guardino and "In the Line of Fire" (1993) starring Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, Rene Russo, Fred Thompson, Gary Cole and John Mahoney, the role that really helped his career in Hollywood.
In 1997 he was cast in the legal drama television series, "The Practice" portraying lawyer Bobby Donnell. This role has earned him a Golden Globe and Emmy nomination. He remained with the show until 2004, and then his next role was in the mini-series, "The Grid" (2004).
Over the course of his career, McDermott has also appeared on the television series, "3 lbs." (2006), "Big Shots" (2007), "Dark Blue" (2009) and "American Horror Story" (2011) and most recently in the films, "Nobody Walks" (2012), "The Campaign" (2012) starring Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, John Lithgow, Dan Aykroyd and John Goodman, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (2012) starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller and soon to be released, "Parental Guidance Suggested" (2013) and "The Frozen" (2013).
Dylan McDermott has married only once to Shiva Rose whom he wed in 1995 and they had two children together before the marriage came to an end in 2008.
