DOROTHY PROVINE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dorothy Provine was born on January 20th, 1935 in Deadwood, South Dakota with the birth name Michele Dorothy Provine. She was raised in San Francisco and attended college at the University of Washington earning a degree in Theater Arts.
She became involved in the film industry right away, only three days after relocating to Hollywood working on her first film, a 'B' rated movie called, "The Bonnie Parker Story" (1958) followed by such film roles as, "Riot in Juvenile Prison" (1959), "Live Fast, Die Young" (1958) and "The 30 Foot Bride of Candy Rock" (1959). Her film career was not as successful as she hoped for and so she decided to give a try to working as a television actress.
She signed with Warner Brothers and made a good career choice, moving over to television. She won over audiences with her good looks, sweet smile and talent as an actress. She took no the role as a saloon singer from the 1990's, Rocky Shaw in, "The Alaskans" (1959) and also portrayed Pinky Pinkham, a flapper dancer in the series, "The Roaring 20's" (1960).
Some of her later film work were roles on such big screen features as, "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (1863), "Good Neighbor Sam" (1964), "That Darn Cat!" (1965), "The Great Race" (1965), "Who's Minding the Mint?" (1967) and "Never a Dull Moment" (1968).
Along with being a talented actress, Provine was also a decent singer and had a beautiful voice which she shared with audiences on the live stage and even live performances in Las Vegas.
In 1969, way before her time, Provine decided she was done with the entertainment industry and married a director, Robert Day. For a couple years she would make occasional television appearances, but mostly chose to stay out of the spotlight.
She relocated with her husband to Bainbridge Island, Washington in 1981 and gave birth to her first son, Robert Day Jr. In her later years she suffered from emphysema and at the age of seventy five she passed away on April 25th, 2010.
