DOROTHY MALONE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dorothy Malone was born on January 30th, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois with the birth name Dorothy Eloise Maloney. She was born into a family of five children, but lost two older sisters due to complications from polio and later on in life her brother was struck by lighting on a golf course in Dallas and passed away. She was raised in Dallas, Texas and she began her career working as a model and entering beauty contests.
When Malone was performing at Southern Methodist University she was seen by a talent scout with RKO productions and was offered a contract. Malone then became involved in the film industry in the mid 40's making her film debut on, "The Falcon" followed by "Co-Eds" (both 1943). For a while she was mostly cast in 'B' rated films and then began to gain respect in the industry and was offered a number of more substantial roles on such films as, "The Big Sleep" (1946), "Artists and Models" (1955) and "Written on the Wind" (1956) for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
As she entered into the mid 50's she decided to change her image and color her hair platinum blonde to get rid of her 'good girl' image. This change helped her gain more prominent roles such as in, "Too Much, Too Soon" (1958), "Warlock" (1959) starring Henry Fonda and Anthony Quinn, "The Tarnished Angels" (1957) and "The Last Sunset" (1961).
Alongside a successful film career she also made a number of television appearances such as on, "Appointment with Adventure" (1963-1964), "The Greatest Show on Earth" (1964-1968), and "Peyton Place" (1964-1968).
Malone's final screen appearance was portraying a mother who was convicted of murdering her family in, "Basic Instinct" (1992).
Malone married three times throughout her life. First to Jacques Bergerac from 1959 through 1964 and they had two children together, Mimi and Diane. Dorothy then married Robert Tomarkin from April 1969 only through till August 1969 when the marriage was annulled. Her third and final time to marry was to Charles Huston Bell from 1971 through 1974. She has not married again and is currently retired and living in Dallas, Texas.
She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
