DORIS ROBERTS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Doris Roberts was born on November 4th, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri with the birth name Doris May Green. As a young girl, her father abandoned her and her mother, therefore, she was raised by her mother Ann and her step father.
She studied drama at the HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York city and her career in entertainment began first as a stage actress in a number of off Broadway as well as Broadway productions.
In 1952 she was cast on the television series, "Studio One", which began her career in film and television, however she never neglected her love of stage work and over her time as an actress she has appeared in such productions as, "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers", "Bad Habits" and "Unusual Acts of Devotion".
She is very well known for her role portraying, Marie Barone on the television series, "Everybody Loves Raymond" (1996). For this role she has received a total of seven Emmy nominations for which she won four.
Other television credits she has added to her resume over the course of her career include, "The Naked City", "Way Out", "Ben Casey", "The Defenders", "Medical Center", "All in the Family" and "Fantasy Island" among others.
She has also added numerous film credits to her resume such as, "Barefoot in the Park" (1967) starring Robert Redford, Jane Fonda, Charles Boyer and Mildred Natwick, "A Lovely Way to Die" (1968) starring Kirk Douglas, Sylva Koscina Eli Wallach, Ralph Waite, Dana Elcar and Kenneth Haigh, "No Way to Treat a Lady" (1968) starring Rod Steiger, Lee Remick, George Segal and Eileen Heckart, "The Honeymoon Killers" (1969) starring Shirley Stoler and Tony Lo Bianco, "Such Good Friends" (1971) starring James Coco, Jennifer O'Neill, Dyan Cannon, Ken Howard, Burgess Meredith and Nina Foch, "Little Murders" (1971) starring Elliott Gould, Alan Arkin, Donald Sutherland and Marcia Rodd, "A New Leaf" (1971) costarring Elaine May, Walter Matthau, George Rose, Jack Weston and James Coco, "The Heartbreak Kid" (1972) starring Charles Grodin, Jeannie Berlin, Eddie Albert, Audra Lindley and Cybill Shepherd and "The Rose" (1979) starring Bette Midler, Alan Bates, Frederic Forrest, Harry Dean Stanton, Barry Primus and David Keith.
In 2003, Roberts was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. More recently she has added such credits to her resume appearing in the films, "Grandma's Boy" (2006) starring Nick Swardson, Linda Cardellini, Shirley Jones and Kevin Nealon, "Play the Game" (2008) starring Andy Griffith, Paul Campbell, Liz Sheridan and Marla Sokoloff and "Aliens in the Attic" (2009) starring Carter Jenkins, Ashley Tisdale, Robert Hoffman, Henri Young, Regan Young and Austin Butler. She has also worked on the series, "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (2007), "The Middle" (2010) and "Counter Culture" (2012) starring Kerri Kenny and Delta Burke.
In addition to her career as an actress she is also a published author with the book titled, "Are You Hungry, Dear? Life, Laughs, and Lasagna" published in 2005. She is also an animal rights advocate as well as involved in charitable causes for Children with AIDS Foundation.
Doris Roberts has married twice throughout her lifetime, first to Michael E. Cannata in 1956 and they had one child together before the marriage came to an end in 1962. She then married William Goyen in 1963 and they stayed together until he passed away in 1983. Doris Roberts resides in Los Angeles and remains a working actress.
