DON JOHNSON BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Don Johnson was born on December 15th, 1949 in Flat Creek, Missouri with the birth name Donnie Wayne Johnson. His father, Wayne, worked as a farmer and his mother, Nell, was employed as a beautician. As a child he had aspirations of growing up and pursuing a career as a professional bowler, however as he grew older he began to develop an interest in acting.
Johnson graduated from South High School in Kansas and that was where he was initially exposed to acting, participating in a number of school productions. After earning his high school diploma he went on to study at the University of Kansas on a full drama scholarship, and later studied drama at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
Don was part of a rock group called, "Horses" in the late 1960's and they had a record released in 1969 and the same record was later released in 2004 and again in 2005 by a total of three different labels. Later in his music career he had a total of three Billboard Hot 100 singles, "Heartbeat" (1986), "Heartache Away" (1986) and "Til I Loved You" (1989) which was a duet with Barbra Streisand.
After the band broke up, he began working as a stage actor appearing in such productions as, "Twelfth Night" and "Fortune and Men's Eyes" (1969). It did not take long for the film industry to develop an interest in him and he was cast in the film, "The Magic Garden of Stanley Sweetheart" (1970), followed by roles in such films as, "Zachariah" (1971), "The Harrad Experiment" (1973), "Lollipop and Roses" (1974) and "A Boy and His Dog" (1975).
Along with working as a film actor he also continued to appear on stage and a number of television series such as, "Sarge", "Young Dr. Kildare" and "Kung Fu". He became most well known for his role as an undercover police officer, Sonny Crockett, on the television series, "Miami Vice" (1984-1990), for which he appeared in 110 episodes total and won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in 1986 and also won an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1985.
Johnson had reached the level of popularity he was after and he added to his resume credits on such series as, "The Long, Hot Summer" (1985), "Tales of the Unexpected" (1985) and "Matt Houston" (1983).
He also returned back to his initial love of entertainment with his music and released two albums. Not neglecting his acting he continued to pursue television, stage and film roles and when "Miami Vice" came to an end, Johnson re-directed his focus on his film career and appeared on the big screen in such films as, "Dead Bang" (1989), "The Hot Spot" (1990), "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" (1991) and the Italian film, "Bastardi" (2008).
At one point he also created and produced his own television series, "Nash Bridges" (1996) which he also starred in. Some of his latest roles have been in, "When in Rome" (2010), "A Good Old Fashioned Orgy" (2011) and soon to release in 2013, "Vineyard Haven".
His personal life has had some up's and downs. Don has had occasional run-in's with the law and a number of marriages. He was married twice to two different woman for which the marriages were annulled and their names were never released to the public. He was also twenty two years old when he was involved in a relationship with then, Melanie Griffith, who was only fourteen years old at the time. The couple actually married for six months. When that marriage came to an end he fathered a son with actress, Patti D'Arbanville but never proceeded with marriage. In 1989 he returned back to wed Griffith for a second time and they had a daughter together, but in 1996, this marriage again ended in divorce. He is now currently married to Kelly Phleger whom he wed in 1999 and they have three children together and reside in Los Angeles, California.
