DON BEDDOE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Don Beddoe was born on July 1st, 1903 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the birth name Donald Theophilus Beddoe. He was raised in New York City as well as in Cincinnati, Ohio. Originally growing up, he wanted to pursue a career in journalism, however he soon developed an interest in acting.
Beddoe began as a stage actor first with a number of amateur companies and later doing some professional stage work. He then debuted on Broadway in 1929 and continued working as a stage actor throughout his career.
Along with stage work, Beddoe appeared on a number of silent film in his early years such as, "There's That Woman Again" starring Melvyn Douglas, Virginia Bruce, Margaret Lindsay and Stanley Ridges and "Flying G-Men" starring starring Robert Paige, Richard Fiske, James Craig, Lorna Gray, Ann Doran, Dick Curtis, Sammy McKim and Stanley Brown as Charles Bronson, Flying G-Man, both 1939 and "Sabotage Squad" (1942) starring Bruce Bennett, Kay Harris, Edward Norris, Sidney Blackmer and Robert Emmett. From this point on, he mostly worked in supporting roles but would add over 200 film and television credits to his resume.
Don Beddoe did take a brief break from acting to serve in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his completion of military service, he remained working in the industry adding such film credits as, "Cyrano de Bergerac" (1950) starring Jose Ferrer, who won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance, with Mala Powers, William Prince, Morris Carnovsky, Elena Verdugo, Lloyd Corrigan, Ralph Clanton and Edgar Barrier, "Dancing in the Dark" (1949) starring William Powell, Adolphe Menjou, Betsy Drake, Walter Catlett, Randy Stuart and Jean Hersholt and Mark Stevens, "Woman in Hiding" (1950) starring Ida Lupino, Howard Duff, Stephen McNally, Joe Besser, John Litel, Taylor Holmes and Irving Bacon, "Don't Bother to Knock" (1952) starring Jim Backus, Anne Bancroft, Willis Bouchey, Jeanne Cagney, Elisha Cook Jr., Marilyn Monroe, Lurene Tuttle, Richard Widmark, Donna Corcoran and Verna Felton, "Hoodlum Empire" (1952) starring Brian Donlevy, Claire Trevor, Forrest Tucker, Vera Ralston, Luther Adler, John Russell, Gene Lockhart, Grant Withers, Taylor Holmes, Roy Roberts and Pat Flaherty, "The Clown" (1953) with Red Skelton, Jane Greer and Tim Considine, "River of No Return" (1954) starring Robert Mitchum, Marilyn Monroe, Rory Calhoun, Tommy Rettig and Douglas Spencer, "Loophole" (1954) starring Mary Beth Hughes, Barry Sullivan, Dorothy Malone, Charles McGraw and Don Haggerty, "Behind the High Wall" (1956) with Tom Tully, Sylvia Sidney and Betty Lynn, "Bullwhip" (1958) starring Guy Madison, Rhonda Fleming and James Griffith, "Warlock" (1959) starring Henry Fonda, Dorothy Malone, Anthony Quinn, Richard Widmark, Dolores Michaels, Regis Toomey, DeForest Kelley, Whit Bissell, Frank Gorshin, Vaughn Taylor, Wallace Ford, Tom Drake, Gary Lockwood, L. Along with film work, he did appear in numerous television series during his career such as, "My Hero", "The Lone Ranger", "Mr. and Mrs. North", "Ramar of the Jungle", "The Public Defender", "Sheriff of Cochise", "My Friend Flicka", "The Loretta Young Show", "Richard Diamond, Private Detective", "Sugarfoot", "Petticoat Junction", "The Lucy Show", "Pistols 'n Petticoats", "Front Row Center", "Conflict", "Father Knows Best", "Blondie", "Colt .45", "The Restless Gun", "The Grand Jury", "Lawman", "Maverick", "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet", "Have Gun - Will Travel" and his final television appearance in 1984 on, "Highway to Heaven".
In addition to his career as an actor, Beddoe made time to have a successful career real estate. He married twice throughout his lifetime, first to Jessie Evelyn Sebring in 1943 and they remained together until she passed away in 1974. He then married Joyce Mathews in 1974 and they were together until he passed away at the age of eighty seven, on January 19th, 1991 in Laguna Hills, California from natural causes.
