DICK SARGENT BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dick Sargent was born on April 19th, 1930 in Carmel, California with the birth name Richard Stanford Cox, born to parents, Ruth McNaughton, a actress and Colonel Elmer Cox who later became a Hollywood business manager. Sargent went to school at San Rafael Military Academy in Menlo Park, California and then enrolled at Stanford to study drama.
After college he began pursuing a career as an actor, first with his debut role in the film, "Prisoner of War" (1954) followed by some of his early television roles such as, "Gunsmoke" (1955), "Wagon Train" (1957), "I Dream of Jeanie" (1965), "Adam-12" (1968), "One Happy Family" (1961) and "Broadside" (1964).
He became most well known for portraying the character, Darrin Stephens on the television series, "Bewitched" (1964). Along with his television credits, he did add some film credits to his resume such as, "Operation Petticoat" (1959), "That Touch of Mink" (1962), "Fluffy" (1965), "Billie" (1965), "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" (1966), "Live a Little, Love a Little" (1968) and "The Private Navy Sgt. O'Farrell" (1968).
Other small guest appearances included roles on, "Three's Company", "Taxi", "Fantasy Island", "The Dukes of Hazard", "Columbo", "The Waltons" and "Knotts Landing". Sargent also did some voice over work for commercials and occasionally appeared in a number of stage productions.
In 1991 he came out to the public about his sexuality and proclaimed he was a homosexual. He outright supported gay rights and he admitted to having a lifelong partner, Albert Williams who he had lived with for the past twenty years, until he passed away on July 8th, 1994 in Los Angeles, California after suffering from prostate cancer at the age of sixty four. His remains were cremated.
