DIANA RIGG BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Diana Rigg was born on July 20th, 1938 in Doncaster, England with the birth name Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg to parents, Louis Rigg and Beryl Hilda Helliwell.  Up until the age of eight she lived in India for her fathers work as a railway executive.  She later received her formal acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
 
Rigg became most well known to the public for her role on the British television series, "The Avengers" which ran for fifty one episodes between 1965 and 1967.  She is also known for her role portraying, Countess Teresa di Vicenzo in the film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969).
 
Her career began as a stage actress with roles in the, Royal Shakespeare Company in the late 50's and early 1960's.  In 1955 she had her professional stage debut in, "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" at the age of seventeen.  In 1959 she debuted in her first film, "A Mid-Summer Nights Dream". 
 
As her career progressed, Rigg's left "The Avenger's" series and took on the lead role in a television movie, "The Marquise" and continued gaining experience as an actress performing in such stage productions as, "Night and Day" and "Jumpers".
 
In 1969, Rigg's was cast in he film, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (1969) with hopes that this film role would increase her popularity in America.  As her career continued she appeared on the big screen in such films as, "The Assassination Bureau" (1969), "The Hospital" (1971), "Theatre of Blood" (1973), "In This House of Brede" (1975), "A Little Night Music" (1977) and "The Great Muppet Caper" (1981).
 
During the 1980's she worked in television and film receiving great reviews from critics for her role in the film, "Evil Under the Sun".  Some of her later television roles included, "Hedda Gabler" , "Bleak House" and "Mother Love" for which she won the 1989 BAFTA for best actress.  She also won an Emmy for her role as Mrs. Danvers in, "Rebecca".
 
Diana Rigg then went on to host a show on PBS titled, "Mystery!" between 1989 and 2003.  She also still managed to work in a number of stage productions such as, "Suddenly Last Summer", "Honour", "All About My Mother", "The Cherry Orchard" and "Hay Fever" in 2009.  She has received critical praise for her role in, "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" and she has the reputation of being one of the greatest actresses to ever work on the British stage. 
 
Her latest film appearances have been on, "The Painted Veil" (2006) and "Heidi" (2005).  Diana has married twice, first to a painter, Menachen Gueffen from 1973 through 1976.  She then married her second husband, Archibald High Stirling in 1982 and after having one child together, this marriage ended in 1990.
 
She has retired from the industry and is Chancellor of Stirling University in Scotland.  She was also recently voted as the sexiest star ever by TV Guide in the United States.
