DAVID JANSSEN BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

David Janssen was born on March 27th, 1931 in Naponee, Nebraska with the birth name David Harold Meyer.  David had two siblings, Teri and Jill.  As a teenager, his family relocated to Hollywood, California and he attended Fairfax High School.  It was during this time that he became interested in acting.

Before he completed school in 1945 at the age of thirteen, he got the opportunity to get a small part on the film, "It's a Pleasure".  After graduating high school and turning eighteen, he then signed a contract with 20th Century Fox.  Sadly, he did not remain in his contract very long as the studio was not so pleased with his physical appearance.

In the early 1950's, Universal Pictures did not have an issue with his appearance and they signed him to a contract.  He worked on a total of thirty two films with Universal and even got a role on the television series, "Richard Diamond, Private Detective" (1957).  He earned the most success with his role on the tv series, "The Fugitive" (1963-1967) where he was cast as the lead.  He also worked on the series, "O'Hara, U.S. Treasury" (1971) followed by another role on a hit series called, "Harry O" (1973).

Some of his more known film work were in such features as, "To Hell and Back" (1955) starring Audie Murphy, Jack Kelly, Marshall Thompson, Charles Drake, Denver Pyle and Paul Picerni, "The Green Berets" (1968) starring John Wayne, Jim Hutton, Aldo Ray, George Tekai, Jack Soo, Patrick Wayne and Bruce Cabot, "Lafayette Escadrille" (1958) starring with Tab Hunter, Will Hutchins and Etchika Choureau and Clint Eastwood, "Marooned" (1969) co-starring Gregory Peck, Richard Crenna, James Franciscus, Mariette Hartley, Lee Grant and Gene Hackman and "A Sensitive, Passionate Man" (1977) co-starring Angie Dickinson, Mariclare Costello and Rhodes Reason.

He mostly focused on television, working on almost twenty made for TV movies and also various other television projects including shows such as "Zane Grey Theatre", "Sheriff of Cochise", "Checkmate", "Boston Blackie" and "Death Valley Days".

He passed away very suddenly from a heart attack at the age of forty eight at his home in Malibu, California on February 13th, 1980.

David Janssen married only twice throughout his lifetime, first to Ellie Graham from 1958 through 1970.  His second marriage was to Dani Crayne from October 4th, 1975 until his death.  David Janssen was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to Television.  Janssen is interred in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
