David Farrar ACTOR


David Farrar was born on August 21st, 1908 in Forest Gate, London in England. At the age of fourteen he dropped out of school and found work as a writer for a newspaper. Soon he set his goals on pursuing a career as an actor.
He began in 1932 appearing on stage and after gaining five years experience performing in a number of stage productions in London he decided to give the film industry a try. His first film role was in, "The Face Behind the Scar" (1937) Starring Griffith Jones and Rosalyn Boulter. 

Soon other small film roles followed such as, "Sexton Blake and the Hooded Terror" (1938) starring George Curzon, Tod Slaughter and Greta Gynt, "Silver Top" (1938) starring Marie Wright, Betty Ann Davies and Marjorie Taylor, and "Clouds of Europe" (1939) starring Laurence Olivier, Ralph Richardson, Valerie Hobson. Then more substantial roles began to come his way appearing in the films, "Went the Day well?" (1942) starring Leslie Banks, Mervyn Johns, Basil Sydney, C.V. France, Valerie Taylor and Thora Hird, "Black Narcissus" (1947) starring Deborah Kerr, Sabu Dastagir, Flora Robson, Esmond Knight, Jean Simmons and Kathleen Byron, "The Small Black Room" (1949) starring with Leslie Banks, Kathleen Byron and Jack Hawkins, "The Wild Heart" (1952) co-starring Jennifer Jones and Cyril Cusack, "The Sea Chase" (1955) starring alongside John Wayne, Lana Turner, Lyle Bettger, John Qualen, Paul Fix, Tab Hunter, James Arness, Claude Akins and Alan Hale Jr. and "The 300 Spartans" (1962) starring Richard Egan, Ralph Richardson, Diane Baker and Barry Coe.
He then began to focus on the television industry as film roles were becoming less available to him. Some of his television credits included, "The Dick Powell Theatre", "BBC Sunday-Night Theatre" and the television movie, "Portrait of Peter Perowne".

David Farrar married only once to Irene Elliot in 1929 and they had one child together and remained married until she passed away in 1976. He then chose to retire completely from the industry and relocated to South Africa. On August 31st, 1995 he passed away at the age of eighty seven, in KwaZulu-Natal, Republic of South Africa.
