DARLA HOOD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Darla Hood was born on November 8th, 1931 in Leedey, Oklahoma with the birth name Darla Jean Hood. At the young age of four years old, Darla showed an interest in performing and had a musical talent both her parents took notice of.
During a singing debut at the Edison Hotel in Times Square, she was seen by a agent who worked for Hal Roach and she was tested and then signed to a seven year contract. She associated herself with the, "Our Gang" group, which was part of the "Our Gang" and "Little Rascals" comedy kids for which she stayed with from 1935 through 1941.
Hood also appeared on the big screen in such films as "The Bohemian Girl" (1936). When the "Our Gang" series came to an end it was difficult for Hood to make the transition from child actress to teen roles. She enrolled back in High School at Fairfax High in Hollywood and after found employment in a variety show, "Blackbirds". She continued to work making appearances in various nightclubs and some other television shows as well.
Darla Hood also worked in the industry doing voice over work for a number of cartoons and commercials such as the voice of the mermaid in the, "Chicken of the Sea" commercials. She even added to her resume a number of musical recordings such as her hit record in 1957 with "I Just Wanna Be Free".
Hood married twice throughout her lifetime, first to Robert Decker from 1949 through 1957 and they had two children together. Her second marriage was to her one time manager, Jose Granson in 1957 and after having three children they remained married until she passed away on June 13th, 1979 in Hollywood, California after suffering from acute hepatitis.
Darla Hood is interred at Hollywood Memorial Cemetery in Hollywood, California.
