Dan Aykroyd ACTOR

Dan Aykroyd was born on July 1st, 1952 in Ottawa, Ontario in Canada with the birth name Daniel Edward Aykroyd, born to Peter and Lorraine Aykroyd.  Dan has one brother, Peter, who also later became a comedic actor.
He first became involved in acting during high school and after high school he enrolled at Carleton University in Canada in 1969 and majored in Criminology as well as Sociology.  However, before earning his college degree he left school to work with a Stage Troupe in Toronto and then became more involved in pursuing a career as an actor.
His career in entertainment first began doing stand up comedy at a number of nightclubs throughout Canada and he also ran a nightclub called, Club 505.  He first gained popularity when he performed on, "Saturday Night Live" as a writer and cast member for four seasons.  In 1977, he earned an Emmy Award for his writing on the show and later was honored with two more Emmy nominations for writing and two for acting.  Although he has returned to the show numerous times throughout his career he never was an actual host until 2002-2003.
He became very well known for his, "Blues Brothers Act".  It all began with his friendship with actor and comedian, John Belushi.  The two with some help from Saturday Night Live's music director, Paul Shaffer created their act.  They would perform live and even created an album called, "Briefcase Full of Blues" in 1978.  Sadly, John Belushi passed away and Aykroyd went on to start, "The House of Blues" with a couple other Hollywood entertainers.
With John Belushi by his side they appeared in three films together, "The Blues Brothers" (1980), "Neighbors" (1981) and "1941" (1979).  Some of his other film roles that brought him a large amount of attention were in, "Ghostbusters" (1984) which he was also a creator and co writer for the film.  He also earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting actor for his role in the film, "Driving Miss Daisy" (1989) starring with Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy.
Along with working as an actor, musician, comedian and writer he was also given the chance to work in the industry as a director.  His debut was for the film, "Nothing but Trouble" (1991), however the film was not successful.
As his career progressed, Dan stuck to appearing on the big screen being seen in such films as, "Exit to Eden" (1994), "Blues Brothers 2000" (1998), "Getting Away with Murder" (1996), "Pearl Harbor" (2001), "50 Dates" (2004), "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion" (2001), "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" (2007) and soon to release in 2012, "Dorothy of Oz", "Dog Fight" and "Ghostbuster III".
Dan has also appeared as a guest star in numerous television programs such as, "The Defenders", "Family Guy", "Soul Man" and "According to Jim".
Along with his acting career, in 2006 he entered into a partnership with Niagara Cellars who own four different wineries and a variety of red and white wines will be marketed using his name.  He also promotes his own Crystal Head Vodka and is now considering negotiations with a beer label as well.  He is very interested in the supernatural and owns a number of books on the subject and has even done a documentary on the subject of UFO's.
Throughout his career in the industry he has received an extensive amount of honors such as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as well as being inducted into the Canada Walk of Fame.  He was also ranked #14 on Tropopkin's, "Top 25 Most Intriguing People" in their 100th issue.
He has married only once to Donna Dixon whom he wed in 1983 and they remain married today and have three children.  He is now a naturalized citizen of the United States, however he resides in Sydenham, Ontario.
