DAKOTA FANNING BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Dakota Fanning was born on February 23rd, 1994 in Conyers, Georgia with the birth name Hannah Dakota Fanning, born to Joy Arrington and Steven Fanning. From a young age she showed that she had a unique talent. Her parents were advised by some friends in their local community that Dakota was special and recommended they take her to Los Angeles and give the entertainment industry a try.
Dakota spent six weeks in California and during that time was lucky enough to book her first commercial for, 'Tide' detergent. Her family then decided to pick up and make the move to Los Angeles.
Soon Dakota was signed to an agency and was appearing on a number of television series such as, "ER", "Ally McBeal", "The Practice", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" and "Spin City".
Along with television work, she began to really make a name for herself in Hollywood with her roles in the films, "Tomcats" (2001) with Jerry O'Connell, Shannon Elizabeth, Jake Busey, Bernie Casey, Jaime Pressly and David Ogden Stiers, "Father Xmas" (2001) and her huge break through role in the film, "I Am Sam" (2001) along with Sean Penn, Michelle Pfeiffer, Dianne Wiest, Loretta Devine, Richard Schiff, Mary Steenburgen and Laura Dern. For this role, Dakota was only eight years old and was the youngest person to receive a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
From this point on she was now a highly desired child actress in Hollywood and more successful film roles came her way such as, "Trapped" (2002) starring Charlize Theron, Courteney Love, Stuart Townsend, Kevin Bacon and Pruitt Taylor Vince, "Sweet Home Alabama" (2002) starring Reese Witherspoon, Josh Lucas, Patrick Dempsey, Candice Bergen, Mary Kay Place and Ethan Embry, "Hansel and Gretel" (2002) Jacob Smith, Taylor Momsen, Thomas Curtis, Alana Austin, Lynn Redgrave, Delta Burke, Gerald McRaney and Howie Mandel, "Uptown Girls" (2003) co-starring Heather Locklear, Marley Shelton, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison and Jesse Spencer , "Man on Fire" (2004) starring Denzel Washington, Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Giancarlo Giannini, Marc Anthony, Rachel Ticotin and Mickey Rourke, "Nine Lives" (2005) also starring Sissy Spacek, Robin Wright, Kathy Baker, Aidan Quinn, Holly Hunter, Lisa Gay Hamilton, Glenn Close, Joe Mantegna, Mary Kay Place, Ian McShane, Amy Brenneman, Amanda Seyfried, Elpidia Carrillo and Molly Parker, "Hide and Seek" (2005) starring Robert De Niro, Famke Janssen, Elizabeth Shue, Amy Irving and Dylan Baker, Steven Spielberg's "War of the Worlds" (2005), portraying the daughter of actor, Tom Cruise with Justin Chatwin, Tim Robbins, Miranda Otto, Morgan Freeman, Ann Robinson and Gene Barry.
Along with television and film work she has also done some voiceover work for the films, "Kim Possible: A Stitch in Time" (2003), "Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch" (2005) and "Coraline" (2009). She also voiced a documentary film called, "Rise" marking the fiftieth anniversary of the crash of Sabena Flight 548 resulting in the loss of the entire United States figure skating team and the championships to be cancelled.
Most recently, Dakota earned a high school diploma from North Hollywood's Campbell Hall Episcopal High and continues her education at New York University. In addition to her studies her most recent film appearances have been on, "The Twilight Saga: Dawn-Part 2" (2012) starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy, "The Motel Life" (2012) starring with starring Emile Hirsch and Stephen Dorff and soon to release, "Very Good Girls" co-starring Elizabeth Olsen, Demi Moore, Ellen Barkin, Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Dreyfuss and Clark Gregg, "Effie", "Night Moves" and "Furious Angel" with Luing Andrews.
