Daffy Duck ACTOR

Daffy Duck is an universaly known character from the Warner Brothers Looney Tunes series.  His first appearance was in the cartoon, "Porky's Duck Hunt" (1937).  His character is very wacky with a sly devious personality.  He is adored by fans and his most well known catch phrase is, "You're dethspicable" which he uses towards anyone who makes him upset.
In the late 1930's, he was the first 'crazy' character to emerge from the traditional everyman characters such as, Mickey Mouse and Popeye.  His arch rival is Bugs Bunny and Bugs Bunny became quite popular as well. "Bugs Bunny" made 166 appearances in shorts in the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, followed by "Daffy Ducks" 129 appearances and right in the middle, "Porky Pig" had a total of 152 appearances.
Daffy Duck made TV Guide's list of the top 50 best cartoon characters and every Warner Brothers cartoon director put their own individual creativity into Daffy Duck's character and how he was portrayed in the various cartoons.
Daffy Duck took viewers by surprise when he first made his screen appearance as people were not used to seeing a cartoon character act with his mannerisms. He was a very assertive character who was wild, wacky and crazy.
Mel Blanc who portrays the voice of Daffy Duck holds the world record  for playing the voice of one animated character for a total of fifty two years.  In the early cartoons, Daffy Ducks, 'lisp' which is associated with the character today was no so prevalent, but as time developed so did the 'lisp' become more noticeable.
The Daffy Duck character was originally created by, Tex Avery and an animator, Bob Clampett fell in love with the character and cast him in a number of cartoons in the 1930's and 1940's.  Daffy was also featured in a number of war-themed shorts during World War II such as, "Draftee Daffy" (1945), "Scrap Happy Daffy" (1943) and "Daffy the Commando" (1943).
Throughout the years Daffy's appearance would have slight changes, either taller, rounder or less elastic but for the most part the changes were so miner and quite un-noticeable.  From the late 1940's till the early 60's, Daffy's character took on whatever role would make him keep his fans, either as good or as bad as he needed to be to regain the attention his rival Porky the Pig was beginning to receive.
The Bugs Bunny character from Looney Tunes was also beginning to gain a huge amount of attention from viewers, but Warner Brothers still wanted to keep Daffy Duck in the loop.  Some of his work in the mid 50's were roles in, "Drip-Along Daffy" (1951), "Robin Hood Daffy" (1958) and "Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century"(1953)  which was a western parody of Buck Rogers.
Daffy's vanity and way of always showing excitement provided Bugs Bunny with the perfect opportunity to fool Elmer Fudd into repeatedly shooting the duck's bill off constantly revealing the catch phrase, "You're despicable!"

Some of Daffy Duck's other well known roles were in, "Duck Amuck" (1953), "Show Biz Bugs" (1957) and "China Jones" (1959) in which was another parody from a television series called, "China Smith" where Daffy Duck had an Irish accent instead of his well known 'lisp'.
At one point Warner Brothers animation studio outsourced cartoon production to, DePatie-Feling Enterprises during the 1960's.  Daffy Duck was used in a number of Speedy Gonzales cartoons as an antagonist character.  The last cartoon that featured Daffy and Speedy was called, "See Ya Later Gladiator" which received horrible reviews from fans everywhere.

Daffy Duck's character lives on today in later cartoon appearances such as, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" (1998) a Disney film and in 1987 Warner Brothers released, "The Duxorcist" to celebrate Daffy's 50th anniversary.  He has also had several roles in some later films such as, "Space Jam" (1996) and "Looney Tunes: Back in Action" (2003).
Daffy Duck has also been featured in a number of comic books with Dell Comics, Good Key Comics and Whitman Comics.  Daffy Duck's voice has been done by a number of actors besides, Mel Blanc.  Some of the other actors to do the voice over were, Jeff Bergman, Greg Burson, Dee Brandlet Baker and Joe Alaskey.
No matter what the age of the viewer is, Daffy Duck has and always will bring a smile to your face with his silly, crazy and wacky personality.  He is a animated character that will never be forgotten.
