CHARLES TROWBRIDGE BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Charles Trowbridge was born on January 10th, 1882 in Veracruz, Mexico with the birth name Charles Silas Richard Trowbridge. Although he was born in Mexico, both of his parents were American and his family relocated back to the United States during his childhood. He was raised in Napa, California and also spent some of his younger years living in Hawaii.
After high school, Trowbridge went on to earn a college degree from Stanford University and then found work as an architect. During this type of work, he designed for stages and developed an interest in acting. He soon began his own acting training at the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco.
Trowbridge then made the move to New York where he began working as a stage actor. In 1913, he debuted in the Broadway production, "The Marriage Game". Other stage credits he added to his resume overtime included, "Daddy Long Legs", "The Broken Wing", "Craig's Wife", "Ladies Leave" and "Dinner at Eight".
Along with gaining quite a bit of experience as a stage actor, he simultaneously also began appearing in a number of silent films such as, "The Fight" (1915) starring Jeanette Bageard, Harry Braham, Ernest Carr and Joseph S. Chailee, "The Eternal Magdalene" (1919) with with Charles Dalton and Margaret Marsh and "Island Wives" (1922) with Corinne Griffith and Rockliffe Fellowes.
He then took a break from acting in films for almost ten years to focus solely on stage roles. When the silent film era came to an end and talkies became the "New Hollywood", he was offered a contract with Paramount Pictures.
Soon, he was back full swing into the film industry appearing in such features as, "I Take This Woman" (1931) starring Gary Cooper and Carole Lombard, "Captains Courageous" (1937) starring alongside Spencer Tracy, Lionel Barrymore, Freddie Bartholomew, John Carradine, Melvyn Douglas, Charley Grapewin and Mickey Rooney, "Meet John Doe" (1941) starring Gary Cooper, Edward Arnold, Irving Bacon, Walter Brennan, Spring Byington, James Gleason, Gene Lockhart, J. Charles Trowbridge then retired from the industry and remained living in Los Angeles, California until he passed away at the age of eighty five on October 30th, 1967. He was married only once briefly to a lady by the name of Helen and never had any biological children. His remains are interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
