CECIL KELLAWAY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Cecil Kellaway was born on August 22nd, 1893 in Cape Town, South Africa with the birth name Cecil Lauriston Kellaway. The majority of his career in the industry was spent working as an actor, author and director in Australia.
Kellaway earned two Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in, "The Luck of the Irish" (1948) starring Tyrone Power, Anne Baxter, Lee J. Cobb and Jayne Meadows and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967) starring Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Isabel Sanford and Katharine Houghton. Other more well known film roles included, "Wuthering Heights" (1939) starring alongside Laurence Olivier, Merle Oberon, David Niven, Donald Crisp, Leo G. Carroll and Flora Robson, "The House of the Seven Gables" (1940) also starring George Sanders, Margaret Lindsay, Vincent Price and Dick Foran, "The Letter" (1940) starring Bette Davis, Herbert Marshall, James Stephenson and Gale Sondergaard, "Love Letters" (1945) co-starring Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotten, Ann Richards, Gladys Cooper and Anita Louise, "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946) starring John Garfield and Lana Turner, "Unconquered" (1947) starring Gary Cooper, Paulette Goddard, Howard Da Silve, Ward Bond, C. Aubrey Smith, Virginia Grey, Henry Wilcoxon and Boris Karloff and "Portrait of Jennie" (1948) starring Jennifer Jones and Joseph Cotten, Lillian Gish, Ethel Barrymore, Anne Francis, Brian Keith, Nancy Davis, David Wayne and Henry Hull and "Proud Rebel" (1958) starring with Alan Ladd, Olivia de Havilland, Dean Jagger, James Westerfield, Henry Hull and Henry Dean Stanton.
Cecil also starred with Elvis Presley in "Spinout" (1966) featuring Shelley Fabares, Will Hutchins, Jimmy Hawkins, Deborah Walley, Carl Betz and Una Merkel.
Along with his work as a film actor he added a couple television appearances to his resume such as, "The Ann Sothern Show", "Make Room for Daddy", "Bewitched", "Twilight Zone", "That Girl", "The F.B.I.", "Burke's Law", "My Favorite Martian" and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington".
His final appearances were on the television series, "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" (1970) and the television movie, "Call Holme" (1972).
Cecil Kellaway married only once to Doreen Elizabeth Joubert in 1919 and they had two children and remained married until he passed away at the age of eighty two, on February 28th, 1973 in Hollywood, California from arteriosclerosis. His remains are interred at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.
