CARRIE SNODGRESS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Carrie Snodgress was born on October 27th. 1945 in Park Ridge, Illinois with the birth name Caroline Snodgress. After graduating from Maine Township High School East, she enrolled at Northern Illinois University and then decided to switch schools and study drama at the Chicago Goodman Theatre School. After earning her degree, Snodgress found work as a television actress and also began appearing in a number of films.
Her film debut was in 1969 in an un-credited role in, “Easy Rider” starring Dennis Hopper, Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson followed by her first credited role in 1970 in, “Rabbit, Run” and, “Diary of a Mad Housewife” (1970) which earned Snodgress her first Academy Award nomination and two Golden Globe wins.
After taking an eight year break from the industry right when her career was about to take off, she returned in 1978 and took a role in the film, “The Fury”. Other film roles that followed were, “The Attic” (1980), “A Night in Heaven” (1983), “Blueberry Hill” (1988) and “Reasonable Doubts” (1992).
Along with earning success as a film actress it was not until 1981 that Snodgress decided to give stage acting a try when she made her Broadway debut in a production of, “A Couple White Chicks Sitting Around Talking”. Other stage performances she was seen in were, “All the Way Home”, “Oh! What a Lovely War”, “Caesar and Cleopatra”, “The Balcony and the Boor” and “Curse of the Starving class”.
Some of her more prominent film and television roles were in 1994 in the movie, “Blue Sky” and also appearances on such television series as, “The X-Files” (1993), “Murder, She Wrote” (1984) and “ER” (1998).
Carrie Snodgress married and only once to, painter Robert Jones in 1981 and never had any children with him, but she does have one son, Zeke who was born with cerebral palsy, from a four year relationship with musician, Neil Young. After her marriage ended in divorce she did not re marry but continued pursuing her career as an actress. On April 1st, 1994 at the age of fifty eight, she passed away in Los Angeles, California after suffering from heart and liver failure.
