CARL REINER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Carl Reiner was born on March 20th, 1922 in the Bronx, New York to parents Bessie and Irving Reiner. At the age of sixteen he heard about a free dramatic workshop at the Works Progress Administration. He attended this workshop and credits his brother for showing him this posting that helped in gain an interest in acting.
His University education was at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and he also spent some time in the United States Army Special Services during World War II.
Carl's acting career began working as a stage actor performing in a number of Broadway musicals such as, "Alive and Kicking" and "Call Me Mister". He soon began finding television work as well on such shows as, "Steve Allen Show" (1960) and also worked as a director on, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (1961-1966) as well as making occasional appearances as host, Alan Brady".
When the show ended he worked on the film, "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming" (1966) and then directed, "Enter Laughing" (1967), "Where's Poppa?" (1970), "Oh, God!" (1977) and "The Jerk" (1979).
Carl continued to work as an actor and director, being honored in the year 2000 with the, Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. He even did some voice over work in 2004 in the animated Television series, "Father of the Pride". Some of his other appearances included a guest star spot on the series, "House" (2009), "Two and a Half Men" (2009) and "The Cleveland Show" (2010-2011).
His resume not only displayed his acting and directing credits, but he was also a published author with a number of books such as, Mt Anecdotal Life: A memoir written in 2004 and the novel, NNNNN: A Novel.
Reiner married only once at the age of twenty one in 1943 to Estelle Lebost who was twenty nine years old when they married. They remained married until she passed away at the age of ninety four. They had three children together, Rob who is now a director, Sylvia Anne who works as a poet, playwright and author, and Lucas who is an actor and director.
In the year 2000, he was inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame and even made a best selling album with Mel Brooks called, "2000 Years with Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks" which earned a Grammy nomination and was his reasoning for becoming a writer as well.
