Blair Underwood ACTOR


Blair Underwood was born on August 25th, 1964 in Tacoma, Washington.  His father, Frank E. Underwood, was employed with the army so he spent most of his childhood being raised in various places.  His mother, Marilyn Ann was an interior decorator and he has one older brother and two younger sisters.  He graduated from Petersburg High School in Petersburg, Virginia and then went on to study at Carnegie Mellon School of Drama. 
Underwood then relocated to New York City to find work in the entertainment industry and after only living in New York two days he got very lucky and was cast on, "The Cosby Show" (1985), followed soon by television roles on, "One Life to Live" (1985-1986), "21 Jump Street" (1987) and his most well known role portraying attorney Jonathan Rollins on, "LA Law" (1986).
He had also already broken in to the film industry getting his first feature film role in 1985 on, "Krush Groove".  As his career progressed, Underwood was also seen on television drama's such as, "Murder in Mississippi" (1990), "Heat Wave" (1990), "Soul of the Game" (1996) and "Mama Flora's Family" (1998).
Added to his film credits are, "Just Cause" (1995), "Set It Off" (1996), "Gattaca" (1997), "Deep Impact" (1998), "The Wishing Tree" (1999), "Full Frontal" (2002) and "Asunder" (1999).
In addition to his television and film roles, Underwood frequents the theater being seen in such productions as, "Measure for Measure", "El Negro en Peru", "The Game of Love and Chance" and "Love Letters".  He was also involved in producing the short film, "Sister, I'm Sorry" (1994) and has directed a total of five music videos. 
Some of his more recent roles have been on the television series, "The Treatment" (2008) and such films as, "From Cape Town with Love" (2010), "I Will Follow" (2011), "Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day" (2011) and soon to release in 2012, "Macbett".    
Along with his acting career he is involved in a number of charitable organizations such as supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association as well as being a co founder and supporting the Artists for a New South Africa which helps promote South Africans to have equal rights and equal opportunities for all.  He is also involved with a non-profit theater group that focuses on plays that deal with Black experiences. 
Blair has also received a number of other honors throughout his career such as being voted by People's magazine as one of the, "50 Most Beautiful People" in 2000 as well as a number of Golden Globe nominations, one Grammy Award and three NAACP Image Awards.  Underwood has married only once to Desiree DaCosta whom he wed in 1994 and together they have three children and remain married today.
