BILLY HALOP BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Billy Halop was born on February 11th, 1920 in New York City, New York with the birth name William Halop.  He was born into a show business family as his mother was a dancer and his sister was already working as a child actress.  Billy began getting involved in show business first working on radio in the early 1920's and then began to get involved as working as a stage actor on Broadway.

When he was working on the stage play, "Dead End" Samuel Goldwyn brought over him and some other cast members to Los Angeles to create the film version.  The film turned out to be a huge success.  This lead to a series of films called the, "Dead End Kids/Little Tough Guys" (1937) all with Universal Pictures.

In the 1940's, Halop decided to leave the group and pursue a career in acting on his own, but was only able to get cast in a number of 'B' rated films such as, "Gas House Kids" (1946).  Along with not reaching the level of stardom he had hoped for as a solo actor, he was also dealing with a majority of issues in his personal life such as marital, financial and alcohol addiction.

While working as an actor he also found work as a registered nurse at St. Johns Hospital in Malibu, California.  To supplement his nursing income he did get a recurring role on the television series, "All in the Family" (1968) portraying the character, Munson, who was the owner of the cab company.

Billy Halop married three times throughout his life.  His first wife was Helen Tupper whom he married on May 31st, 1946 and divorced in 1947.  His second marriage was to Barbara Van Brunt Hoon whom he married in 1948 and they remained together until 1958.  His third and final marriage was to Suzanne Roe who he married on December 17th, 1960 and remained married until 1967.  He never had any children.

On November 9th, 1976 he passed away in Brentwood, California after suffering a heart attack.  He is interred at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles, California.  At the time of his passing he was working on his autobiography titled, There's No Dead End".
