BILL MURRAY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Bill Murray was born on September 21st, 1950 in Wilmette, Illinois with the birth name William James Murray born to parents, Edward and Lucille Murray. He was the fifth born to a total of nine children. Growing up, along with his siblings, they worked as cadies to help save up to pay for their tuition to a Jesuit school called, Loyola and had to work even harder, when his father passed away. He first became exposed to acting in school participating in some school plays.
After high school, Murray went on to study at Regis College in Denver and originally had his goals set on pursuing a career in medicine, however, after being caught with possession of marijuana he dropped out of school.
His first involvement in entertainment came when his brother, Brian Murray got him a job at the Second City Chicago improvisational comedy troupe and then after relocating to New York he joined the National Lampoon Radio Hour and in 1975 he became a cast member of, "Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell". Sadly, this show was unsuccessful, but Murray was given another chance when he was able to join the cast of, "Saturday Night Live" (1975). He gained exposure on this show and earned an Emmy Award for his performance.
His first starring film role was in 1979 in, "Meatballs" followed by some other early film roles such as, "Stripes" (1981), "Caddyshack" (1980), "Ghostbusters" (1984), "Scrooged" (1988), "What About Bob?" (1991) and "Groundhog Day" (1993).
As his career progressed he made appearances on such films as, "Broken Flowers" (2005), "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" (2004), "The Royal Tenebaums" (2001) and "Rushmore" (1998), for which he won Best Supporting Actor Awards from the New York Film Critics Circle, The National Society of Film Critics and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. Murray also earned a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award and an Independent Spirit Award for his role in the film, "Lost in Translation" (2003).
He took a break from acting in 2005, but did not choose to retire quite yet. He returned to films with a role in, "The Darjeeling Limited" (2007), "Get Smart" (2008) and "City of Ember" (2009).
Along with his film work he has also done a number of voice over projects such as for the character, 'Garfield' and for the voice of, 'Mr. Badger' in, "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (2009). There is also talk that he will soon be seen in a "Ghostbusters III".
Bill Murray has married twice throughout his lifetime. His first wife was Mickey Kelley whom he wed in 1981 and they had two children together, Homer and Luke, before this marriage ended in 1994. He then married Jennifer Butler in 1997 and they had four children, Caleb, Jackson, Cooper and Lincoln and this marriage too, ended in 2008.
Murray is also an avid golf player and along with his brother, he is partners in Murray Bros. Caddy Shack which is a restaurant. He is also part owner of the St. Paul Saints minor-league baseball team, Charleston RiverDogs, Hudson Valley Renegades and the Brockton Rox.
Bill Murray continues to work in the industry on occasion, but no longer has an agent or a manager. He resides in Los Angeles as well as owns property on Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts, Charleston, South Carolina and in New York.
