Ben Alexander ACTOR


Ben Alexander was born on may 26th, 1911 in Goldfield, Nevada with the birth name Nicholas Benton Alexander.  By 1915 he was already working as a child actor with such directors as Cecil B. DeMille and D.W. Griffith on a number of films such as, "Each Pearl a Tear" (1916), "The Little American" (1917), "Hearts of the World" (1918) and "The Lady of the Dugout" (1918).
As the silent film era came to an end and sound films came about he had no issue transitioning over as a juvenile actor.  Some of his films during his teenage years were roles on Academy Award winner, "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1930), "A Wise Child" (1931), "High Pressure" (1932) and "Tom Brown of Culver" (1932).
Along with working as an actor he also found work as a radio announcer and became quite popular.  When he was chosen by producer Jack Webb to star in the television series, "Dragnet" (1952-1959) as officer Frank Smith.
This role was followed by a number of other television series as, "Batman" (1966), "Felony Squad" (1966-1969) and "Judd for the Defense" (1969).   
Alexander also owned the, Ben Alexander Ford automobile dealership in Highland Park, California which he kept until he passed away.  He married only once to Leslie Alexander and passed away on July 5th, 1969 in Hollywood, California from natural causes.
