Barry Bostwick ACTOR

BARRY BOSTWICK BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Barry Bostwick was born on February 24th, 1945 in San Mateo, California with the birth name Barry Knapp Botswick.  His parents were, Henry 'Bud' and Betty Bostwick and he had one older brother, Peter.

After graduating from San Mateo High School, Bostwick went on to study at San Diego United States International University's School for Performing Arts.  Bostwick also found work part time as a circus performer.  After earning his Bachelors degree in drama he then traveled to New York and enrolled to earn his masters at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at New York University.

By the age of twenty two, Botswick was performing as a stage actor in such productions as, "Take Her, She's Mine", "War and Peace", "The Misanthrope" and then on Broadway in, "Cock-a-Doodle Dandy", "Hamlet" and "Grease".  He was also a member in the early 1970's of a pop group known as, "The Klowns" and they produced one album.

With quite a bit of stage experience and increased respect as an actor he began to break into the film industry.  Some of his earlier career roles were in, "Jennifer on My Mind" (1971), "Road Movie" (1974), "The Wrong Damn Film" (1975) and his best role up until that point in the musical film, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" (1975).

Along with continuing to work as a film actor, he did not neglect his love of stage acting.  He remained performing on Broadway in such productions as, "They Knew What They Wanted" (1976) for which he earned his second Tony Award nomination and then he won a Tony for his role in 1977 in, 'The Robber Bridegroom".

As his career progressed film roles were coming easy to him with more appearances on such features as, "Movie Movie" (1978) and "War and Remembrance" (1988) for which Botswick won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a military officer.  He also appeared on a number of television series such as, "Spin City" (1996), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1999), "Scrubs" (2003), "What I Like About You" (2006)  and "Cougar Town" (2010-2011).

Botswick has also had a number of leading roles in such miniseries as, "George Washington", "The Forging of a Nation", "A Woman of Substance" and "Till We Meet Again".  Some of his more recent film roles have been in, "Guess Whom" (2011), "Home Run Showdown" (2011), "FDR: American Badass!" (2011) and soon to release in 2012, "Finding Joy".  He has also done voiceover work for such animated series as, "Phineas and Ferb" (2007).

Although Barry was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1997, Botswick underwent a successful surgery and has remained in remission.  He has married twice throughout his lifetime thus far.  His first wife was Stacey Nelkin from 1987 through 1991.  He then married actress, Sherri Jensen in 1994 and they had two children together, Brian and Chelsea, and remained married through 2009.
