ASHLEY JUDD BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Ashley Judd was born on April 19th, 1968 in Granada Hills, California with the birth name Ashley Tyler Ciminella. Her mother is Naomi Judd a famous country music singer and motivational speaker and her father, Michael C. Ciminella worked as a marketing analyst for the horseracing industry. As a child her family moved frequently and before she attended college, she had already attended twelve different schools. Her half sister Wynonna Judd also pursued a career in entertainment as a country music artist.
For a brief time during her childhood she tried out modeling while living in Japan, but did not quite take to it. After high hchool, she went on to study at the University of Kentucky where she majored in French with a minor in anthropology, art history, theater as well as women's studies.
After earning her degree she was considering joining the Peace Corps, however, she decided instead to relocate to Hollywood and study acting under acting coach, Robert Carnegie. She also worked part time as a waitress to help support herself.
She soon broke into the acting industry making appearances on such television series as, "Star Trek: The next Generation" (1991) and a recurring role on, "Sisters" (1991-1994). She was also now beginning to get cast in a number of films such as, "Kuffs" (1992), "Ruby in Paradise" (1993), "Natural Born Killers" (1994), "Smoke" (1995) and "Heat" (1995).
Judd was now at the top of her game. In just a short period of time being involved in the industry she had managed to achieve a highly successful level of fame. She was cast as the lead in, "Kiss the Girls" (1997) and "Double Jeopardy" (1999). As her career progressed she continued to take on more challenging roles such as in the films, "Someone Like You" (2001), "High Crimes" (2002) and "De-Lovely" (2004), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.
On top of her highly successful film career, she is also the model seen on many Estee Lauder cosmetic magazine advertisements for the items sold at Kohls department stores.
Judd has married only once to a Scottish race car driver, Dario Franchitti in 2001 and they remain together today, but have yet to have any children. They reside between a home in Scotland and their farm outside Franklin, Tennessee.
Ashley Judd in the past has had some issues with depression, insomnia and other personal issues, however she has dealt with those and continues to keep a good attitude. Alongside working as an actress, magazine model and being involved with an up and coming clothing line, she is also very in to running, rock climbing, yoga, gardening and loves to cook.
She is also very involved in a number of charitable causes such as becoming a global ambassador for Youth AIDS Organization as well as donating her time to filming three documentaries for the Youth Aid organization. She is also involved as part of the Council for the International Center for Research on Women. Financially, she has supported many other organizations such as, Five & Alive, Jeans for Genes and Defenders of Wildlife to name just a few.
Even though she has made quite a successful career for herself, her mother, Naomi Judd has publicly said she is disappointed in the choice of films her daughter chose due to either the fact the films had nudity, profanity or dealt with sex. Despite her mother's disappointment, Judd has received a number of honors for the accomplishments she has reached throughout her career.
Ashley Judd was named on of the, "25 Most Intriguing People" by People's Magazine as well as being named #77 in FHM magazines, "100 sexiest Women in the world" in 2006. Ashley continues to work in the industry with her latest role expected to release in 2011 in the film, "Missing". She also continues to remain involved with her charitable causes and also writes a guest column in the Lexington Kentucky Herald Leader.
