ARTHUR O'CONNELL BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Arthur O'Connell was born on March 29th, 1908 in New York City, New York. His career in the industry like many other actors during his era began as a stage actor. Soon he became acquainted with Orson Welles Mercury Theatre and was cast in a small role in the film, "Citizen Kane" (1941).
Trying to continue now as a film actor was difficult for him, therefore he returned back briefly to stage performing. Some other stage roles he added to his credits were, "Hamlet", "Macbeth" and "Picnic". This production was later made in to a film three years later and he earned an Oscar nomination for his performance.
Now he had finally gained the attention of Hollywood and began appearing on a number of television series such as, "The Fugitive", "Petticoat Junction", "Route 66", "Breaking Point, "The Second Hundred Years", "The Virginian", "Bonanza", "The New Perry Mason" and his final appearance in 1975 on the television series, "Emergency!".
He also added such film credits to his resume as, "Misty" (1961) "7 Faces of Dr. Lao" (1964), "Kissin' Cousins" (1964) starring Elvis Presley, "The Great Race" (1965), "The Reluctant Astronaut" (1967), "There Was a Crooked Man…" (1970) and "Wicked, Wicked" (1973).
Due to becoming ill with Alzheimer's disease, he slowed down considerable in his career but did appear in television commercials for a toothpaste brand.
O'Connell married only once to Ann Hall Dunlop but this marriage ended in 1973 and they never had any children together nor did he marry again. On May 18th, 1981, O'Connell passed away from Alzheimer's disease in Los Angeles, California. His remains were buried in Calvary Cemetery in Queens, New York.
