ARTHUR FRANZ BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Arthur Franz was born on February 29th, 1920 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. It was during his high school years that he first developed an interest in acting. After serving as a B-24 Liberator navigator with the United States Army during World War II he began pursuing a career as an actor.
Some of his early roles included the films, "Jungle Patrol" (1948) co-starring Kristine Miller, Ross Ford, Tommy Noonan, Richard Jaeckel, Harry Lauter and Gene Reynolds, "The Price of Freedom" (1949) starring Michael Chekhov, Ray Collins and Will Wright, "Red Stallion in the Rockies" (1949) co-starring Jim Davis, James Kirkwood, Jean Heather, Ray Collins, Leatrice Joy and Wallace Ford, "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) starring John Wayne, Forrest Tucker, John Agar, Richard Jaeckel, Adele Mara, James Brown, Richard Webb, Wally Cassell and Julie Bishop, "The Doctor and the Girl" (1949) starring Glenn Ford, Charles Coburn and Gloria DeHaven, Bruce Bennett, Janet Leigh and Nancy Davis, "Red Light" (1949) starring George Raft, Virginia Mayo, Gene Lockhart, Raymond Burr, Barton MacLane, Harry Morgan and Arthur Shields, "Roseanna McCoy" (1949) starring Farley Granger, Joan Evans, Raymond Massey, Charles Bickford, Richard Basehart, Hope Emerson and Marshall Thompson and his first television series role on, "The Lone Ranger" (1949) starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels.
As his career progressed some of his more well known roles included, "Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man" (1951) starring Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Nancy Guild, William Frawley, James Best, Sam Balter, Adele Jergens and Sheldon Leonard, "The Sniper" (1952) also starring Adolphe Menjou, Gerald Mohr, Marie Windsor, Richard Kiley, Wally Cox and Frank Faylen, "Invaders from Mars" (1953) starring with Jimmy Hunt, Helena Carter, Morris Ankrum, Leif Erickson, Barbara Billingsley, Milburn Stone and Hillary Brooke, "The Caine Mutiny" (1954) starring Humphrey Bogart, Jose Ferrer, Van Johnson, Fred MacMurray, E.G. Marshall, Lee Marvin, Warner Anderson, Claude Akins, Whit Bissell, James Best, May Wynn, Tom Tully and Robert Francis and "Hellcats of the Navy" (1957) starring Ronald Reagan, Nancy Davis and Harry Lauter, "The Unholy Wife" (1957) starring alongside Diana Dors, Rod Steiger, Tom Tryon, Marie Windsor, Beulah Bondi, Douglas Spencer and Joe De Santis.
In addition to his film work he also appeared on a variety of television series such as, "Crossroads", "Perry Mason", "The Mod Squad", "Zane Grey Theatre", "Bonanza", "Mannix", "The Virginian", "Rawhide", "Waterfront", "Climax!", "Target", "World of Giants", "Ripcord", "Death Valley Days", "Perry Mason", "Lassie", "Wagon Train" and "The Fugitive" among many others.
More recent film appearances were on, "The 'Human' Factor" (1975) starring George Kennedy, John Mills, Raf Vallone, Rita Tushingham and Barry Sullivan, "King Monster" (1976) starring Basil Bradbury, K.K. Mahajan and Robert White, "Sister of Death" (1977) starring Claudia Jennings, Cheri Howell, Sherry Boucher, Paul Carr, Joe E. Tata, Sherri Alberoni and Roxxanne Albee and "That Championship Season" (1982) starring Robert Mitchum, Martin Sheen, Bruce Dern, Stacy Keach and Paul Sorvino.
Arthur Franz married a total of four times throughout his lifetime. His first wife was Anna Minot whom he wed in 1945 and had one child with before divorcing just one year later. He then married Adele Longmire in 1946 and they had two children together before also ending the marriage just one year later. His third wife was Doreen Lang whom he wed in 1964 and they remained together until she passed away in 1999. His fourth and final wife was Sharon Keyser from February 2006 till his death on June 16th, 2006 in Oxnard, California at the age of eighty six after suffering from emphysema.
