ANTHONY HOPKINS BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Anthony Hopkins was born on December 31st, 1937 in Margam, Port Talbot in West Glamorgan in Wales, with the birth name, Philip Anthony Hopkins. He was the only child born to parents, Muriel Anne Yeats and Richard Arthur Hopkins who operated a bakery. He received his early years education at Jones' West Monmouth Boys' School and then Cowbridge Grammar School.
After completing high school he enrolled at the College of Music and Drama and earned his degree in 1957. Following college he served two years in the British Army before pursuing a career in acting. He then relocated to London and joined the National Theatre after Laurence Olivier, a producer, actor and director took notice of Hopkins and felt he had a talent for the industry.
By 1967, Hopkins was appearing on television with his first role in, "A Flea in Her Ear". Soon more roles were following not only in television but films as well, such as, "The Lion in Winter" (1968), "A Bridge Too Far" (1977) and "The Elephant Man" (1980).
As his career in the industry progressed he worked both on television and in films and never limited himself to portraying one type of character. He was seen on, "Hallmark Hall of Fame: The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1982), "Desperate Hours" (1990), "Howards End" (1992), "The Remains of the Day" (1993), 'Legends of the Fall" (1994), "Nixon" (1995), "Mask of Zorro" (1998), "Meet Joe Black" (1998), "Instinct" (1999) and his most famous role in, "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) which earned him an Oscar for Best Actor as well as a BAFTA.
Hopkins has been known to portray some controversial characters in such films as, "The Bounty" (1984), playing William Bligh and he also portrayed, Adolph Hitler in, "The Bunker" (1981) which was a made for television movie.
He has also been known to have a special technique for preparing for each role and a very distinctive acting style. He will read a script 200 times if he needs to until he knows the lines so well, it involves no need to think and everything he says sounds natural. He also trains his memory by memorizing a poem every day.
Hopkins has married three times. Currently he remains married to his third wife, Stella Arroyave whom he wed in 2003. Prior to this marriage he first wed Petronella Barker in 1967 and they had one child before divorcing in 1972. He then married, Jennifer Lynton in 1973 and this marriage too ended in 2002, but with no children.
Along with being a working actor, Hopkins is also a talented singer and in 1986 he released a single titled, "Distant Star". Anthony has also written music for concert such as compositions titled, "The Masque of Time" and "Schizoid Salsa".
Along with his acting and musical ability, Hopkins has also worked on the other side of the industry as a director directing such films as, "Return Journey" (1996), "August" (1996) and "Slipstream" (2007).
Hopkins has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry. He was also awarded Emmy's for his roles in, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Great Expectations". Anthony Hopkins currently resides in Santa Monica, California. His latest roles soon to release are, "Solace" (2013) and "Hemingway & Fuentes" (2012).
