ANNE BAXTER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Anne Baxter was born May 7th, 1923 in Michigan City, Indiana to parents Kenneth Stuart Baxter and Catherine Wright.  Her father worked as an executive for Seagrams Distillery Co.  Baxter was raised in New York City and went to school at Brearley School.  When she was only ten years old she saw a Broadway play and decided then that she too wanted to be an actress.  By the age of thirteen she was on her way to a career on stage, debuting in, "Seen but Not Heard".

At age 16, she was given a seven year contract with 20th Century Fox.  Her first film role was on, "20 Mule Team" (1940) co-starring Wallace Beery, Leo Carrillo and Noah Beery Jr., followed by  a role on, "The Magnificent Ambersons" (1942) also starring Joseph Cotten, Dolores Costello, Tim Holt, Agnes Moorehead and Ray Collins.  Her status was increasing and she was becoming more well known and desired in the industry.  1944 brought about her being cast in a true story about World War II heroes in "The Fighting Sullivans" in which 5 men from the same family enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor and who subsequently all perished together aboard ship bringing about a new rule prohibiting sailors from the same family from serving on the same ship meant to prevent a reoccurance of parents losing more than one son in the same battle. Her next role was on "The Razor's Edge" (1946) starring with Tyrone Power, Gene Tierney, John Payne, Clifton Webb and Herbert Marshall and for this role, she won her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Her successful career continued with a role on, "All About Eve" (1950) starring alongside Gary Merrill, Bette Davis, George Sanders, Celeste Holm and Hugh Marlowe, and she received a nomination for Best Actress, but did not win the Award this time.

Baxter continued to work in film as well as a career on stage.  She appeared on, "John Brown's Body" (1953) opposite Tyrone Power.  Two films followed with Warner Brother's also in 1953, "I Confess" featuring Karl Malden, Montgomery Clift and Brian Aherne and Fritz Lang's "The Blue Gardenia" starring with Richard Conte, Ann Sothern, George Reeves and Raymond Burr.

She is remembered for her role opposite Charlton Heston in one of the greatest movies of alltime, "The Ten Commandments" (1956) portraying an Egyptian princess and a cast of superstars including Yul Brynner, Martha Scott, Edward G. Robinson, Vincent Price, Debra Paget, John Derek, Yvonne De Carlo, Nina Foch, Cedric Hardwicke, Henry Wilcoxon, Judith Anderson and Frank deKova to name a few.

Anne teamed up again with Charlton Heston in a western "Three Violent People" (1957) also starring Tom Tryon, Gilbert Roland, Forrest Tucker, Robert Blake and Barton MacLane.

Baxter did not limit herself to film and the stage, she also appeared on television.  With guest roles on, "What's My Line?", "Batman", "Egghead" and "Ironside".

In 1970, her career was still going strong and she chose to make a return to the stage.  She worked on the Broadway play, "Applause" followed by starring on the television series, "Hotel" (1983).

Anne Baxter passed away December 12, 1985 from a brain aneurysm that took place 8 days earlier.  She is buried on the estate of Frank Lloyd Wright at Lloyd Jones Cemetery in Spring Green, Wisconsin.  She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

She was survived by her three daughters.  First daughter, Katrina born in 1951 when she was married to actor John Hodiak.  They divorced in 1953 and she then married her 2nd husband, Randolph Galt in 1960 who she had two more daughters with, Melissa born in 1962 and Maginel born in 1964.  This marriage too, ended in divorce and Baxter then married, David Klee in 1977, sadly he passed away unexpectedly from an illness and Baxter never married again.
