ALICE TERRY BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:
Alice Terry was born on July 24th, 1899 in Vincennes, Indiana with the birth name Alice Frances Taaffe. At the age of fifteen she became involved in the film industry working as an extra. When she was seventeen years old she met the director, Rex Ingram who she later married in 1921 and remained with him until he passed away in 1950. She never had any biological children with her husband and never remarried again.
Her film debut as an extra was in 1916 in the film, "Not My Sister". She became involved in more films after her initial extra work. She starred in such features as, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" (1921), "The Prisoner of Zenda" (1922), "Scaramouche" (1923), "The Great Divide" (1924) and "The Arab" (1924).
Along with filming in American she also worked in Italy on the film, "Mare Nostrum" (1926) which was a success followed by another Italian film, "The Garden of Allah" (1927). In 1933 she made her final film appearance in, "Baroud" which she also co directed with her husband.
However, when the film industry switched from silent films to the sound era, Terry decided to retire. In total she worked on twenty nine films, plus an additional four films working as an extra. Sadly, seventeen of her films have been lost.
Rex and Terry both retired together and for the most part lived a happy marriage. When he passed, Terry became involved with another actor, Gerald Fielding and they remained romantically involved until he passed away at the age of forty six.
On December 22nd, 1987, Alice Terry passed away in Burbank, California from Pneumonia. Alice is interred in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood, Los Angeles California. She was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.
