Albert Salmi was born on March 11th, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York with the birth name Alfred Salmi.  Once he completed his military service in the Army after World War II, Salmi went on to study drama at the Dramatic Workshop at the Actors Studio.
His early experience as an actor was working as a stage actor appearing in off Broadway productions first and soon he was appearing on Broadway in such plays as, "End as a Man" (1953) followed by, "Bus stop".
He was given his chance for his first film role in 1958 in, "The Brothers Karamazov" for which he actually turned down an Oscar nomination for his performance in this film.  As his career progressed his niche became working on television in westerns
In 1967, Salmi was honored with the Western Heritage Wrangler Award from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame for his role on, "Gunsmoke" (1955).  As his career continued, Salmi would appear in over three dozen movies and again was honored with another Academy Award nomination for his role in, "The Brothers Karamazov" (1958).
Albert Salmi also appeared on a number of television series such as, "The Untouchables" (1959), "Twilight One" (1959), "T.H.E. Salmi married his first wife, Peggy Ann Garner in 1956 and they had one daughter, Catherine Ann Salmi before this marriage ended in divorce in 1963.  He then married  Roberta Pollock in 1964 and they had 2 children, Lizanne and Jennifer Salmi.
After retiring he chose to teach drama part time in Spokane, Washington.  Albert Salmi passed away on April 22nd, 1990 in Spokane, Washington from a murder suicide in his home with his wife who was also killed.  It is unknown what really happened that day as two different guns were used in the murders.  He will always be remembered as a great man and a talented actor.
