ALBERT DEKKER BIOGRAPHY & FILMOGRAPHY:

Albert Dekker was born on December 20th, 1905 in Brooklyn, New York with the birth name Albert Van Dekker.

After high school he went on to study at Bowdoin College and then involved in the acting industry and first made his debut as a stage actor with a Cincinnati Stock company in 1927 followed by a role in the Broadway play, "Marco Millions".  He was one of the few actors to remain working as a stage actor for almost a decade before breaking into Hollywood.

His film debut was in 1937 on, "The Great Gattick" followed by roles in such films as, "Dr. Cyclops" (1940), "In Old California" (1942) starring John Wayne, "The Killers" (1946), "Kiss Me Deadly" (1955), "The Wonderful Country" (1959) and "The Wild Bunch" (1969).  Throughout the course of his career he appeared in about seventy films and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contribution to the Motion Picture Industry.

Along with his film and television credits, Dekker did return to the stage occasionally appearing in such productions as, "Death of a Salesman" and "A Man for All Seasons".  He was mostly a film and stage actor with just a couple occasional television appearances on such shows as, "Playwrights 56" (1955-1956) and "Play of the Week' (1957-1958).

Along wit his acting career he served from 1945 through 1946 with the California legislature representing the Hollywood district and he was also very involved in politics winning a seat in the California State Assembly for the 57th Assembly District in 1944.

He married only one time to Esther Guirino in 1929 and they had two sons and one daughter before the marriage ended in divorce.  He did not re-marry and on May 5th, 1968, Dekker passed away at the age of sixty two, in Hollywood, California from asphyxia.  Sadly, he was found naked in his bathtub with a noose wrapped around his neck.  He was handcuffed, blind folded and gagged.  His remains were interred at Garden State Crematory in North Bergen, New Jersey.
